NBC to present 2008-09 sked 6 weeks early
By Paul J. Gough

NEW YORK -- NBC said it would present its 2008-09 schedule in a news
conference next week, a full six weeks ahead of its rivals and well
before it has ever done in the past.

The news conference is part of NBC's new strategy that eschews the
traditional upfront week in the middle of May in favor of a 52-week
scheduling announcement in early May and one-on-one meetings between
the network execs and advertisers in New York, Los Angeles and
elsewhere.

Taking part in the Rockefeller Plaza event will be Ben Silverman and
Marc Graboff, co-chairmen of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media
Studios, plus NBC Uni sales/marketing president Michael Pilot and
network ad sales president Marianna Gambelli.

Why do I think this will really be an announcement of the summer schedule
and that all the rest of it will be as 'fixed in stone' as when FOX
announces their post-New year schedule in September?

Ah well, this should mean that next week we will know if they were stupid
enough to pick up Scrubs again just so ABC can't have it.

I think NBC already announced their Summer schedule.

I'm not gonna play anymore. Go listen to WQ review "Miss Guided."

--- Well, that's not exactly true. Networks used to announce their
fall lineups in March, sometimes as early as February, until the 80s.

--- NBC will probably rewrite their schedule in May once the others
put theirs out, so this is really all about meaningless hype and
essentially a determined exercise in futility.

> I think NBC already announced their Summer schedule.

--- Was that a summer schedule you posted back then? Sure fooled me.

--- David's such a spoil sport. No fun at all. What does it say when
even I've got more spunk than he does when I'm [fill in the blank]
years older than he is? Some "young" demo him be.

Lou Grant: "You've got spunk."
Mary Richards: "Oh, Mr. Grant..."
Lou Grant: "I hate spunk."

--- Or more like:

David:  "You've got spunk."
WQ: "Oh, David..."
David:  "I hate spunk."

But maybe that way it sort of sounds a bit too gay.

Realistically, David wouldn't say you have 'spunk', though he might say you
were 'spry'. Then again, you have to clean off the moss if you want him to
say that. ;-)

All of WQ's spunk dried up during male menopause.

--- You wish. While yours goes self-absorbed.
