My outside-the-box idea: Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard
Hemming from the UK "Top Gear". Theyre known to a lot of people
in the business, and there are probably millions of English-speakers
who would never think of watching the Oscars who would tune in to
watch them. And there's even a chance of one of them saying
something funny in the course of a three-hour show.

Was there really NOBODY from the current scene they could have chosen
instead? I loved Crystal's past work but he's hopelessly way behind
the times and his appearance will only invite unflattering comparisons
to his past successful hosting gigs. When was the last time he was
even in a movie or did anything that anyone paid any attention to? I
was starting to think he'd retired from show business.

As I recall the last time he hosted was very much a mixed bag and
didn't he swear he'd never do it again because he was too old to deal
with the pressure?

They could have gone the route of not even having a host, and just
using presenters instead.

and the public loved it.

Bob Hope was famous for his one-liners about politicians and politics. Just
Google him and you will find plenty of them. At the time he was tossing
them out left and right (and they were left and right comments) they were
kinder than the comments bandied about today. No matter what side of the
aisle Hope was poking fun at - it was just that - poking fun. No actor from
Hollywood was ever loved as much by the veterans as Bob Hope was. Without

This is the first year in a decade or so that I've tuned into a
broadcast sitcom - and "Last Man Standing" with Tim Allen is pretty
good and funny - Hector Elizondo, Nancy Travis (first time I've ever
liked her in anything) and a great cast for the girls of the family.
It has some pretty good plots that are funny and still carry a mild
message. Tim Allen as he should be.
