AI: Clay's talent (roles?) vs. Ruben's talent (song titles?)

I am combining several of the AI threads - the debate over who will
win, who says who will, who has talent, etc.

The slamming emails are laughable. Both of these young men are
incredibly talented. Either could win and there will be no travesty of
justice. There has been a lot of talk about recording contracts, etc.
Here is my take-

Both are talented, but very differently.
Regarding Ruben: I would definitely buy his CD if I liked the song
selections. I love his voice. But I would not go see him in concert.
The minute he stops singing, he loses all his stage presence. So I
only want to listen to him, not watch him. In fact, watching a
non-singing Ruben is almost painful. I expect this will change as he
gets more mature/comfortable/coached.

Regarding Clay: I would probably buy a CD if I like the song
selections. But I would promise my firstborn grandchild to go see him
in person in a Broadway musical. Some posters critisized his Mack the
Knife performance as over-the-top. That's what you want on stage. I
can picture Clay in any number of roles: Tommy Steele type rolls, like
Kipps in HALF A SIXPENCE, the musical production of HG Wells book
KIPPS. Or picture Clay as OG, the leprachaun in FINIAN'S RAINBOW,
another Tommy Steele role. He would make a fantastic OG. Or how about
Clay as PUCK in DREAMSTUFF, the musical version of THE TEMPEST? Clay
as Puck would be a smash. He'd also make a fantastic Artful Dodger. In
the right puckish role, he'd be a showstopper, bringing down the
house.

I liked Kimberly Locke, but I was glad when Clay and Ruben ended up as
the last two. They are the two most talented and either one will be a
deserving winner. It will now be impossible to feel like "Oh - they
picked the wrong guy." As for Simon flip-flopping, I don't see that.
He's held different opinions at different times based on their
performance of the evening in question, and that's reasonable. Ruben
and Clay themselves flip-flopped who was best on any given night. But
Simon said Clay has a future on Broadway, and I think he's spot-on.

Summing up, when I find myself thinking about these two, it seems that
I'm thinking of song titles for Ruben versus roles for Clay. I think
choosing SMILE for Ruben was very clever. What songs would you like to
see Ruben record, and what roles can you picture for Clay?

When Simon said that, he was explaining why he thought Clay
should NOT be the American Idol.

Didn't they show pics of Clay dressed up as Peter Pan last night?
I hope he doesn't end up like this:

It's nice Ruben can record Luther's next album for him, seeing as he's in a
coma.
Clay could do a musical with Martin Short, they could play brothers. He
has a very bright future.

Simon said that as a reason for people not to vote for Clay. I don't recall any
complimentary tone.

I think if not for Ruben being in the bottom 2 several weeks ago, he wouldn't
be in the final 2. He hasn't done a lot to earn a place in the final 2. While
the others altered or improved themselves, he stagnated and his performances
lose more power every week. I honestly don't care who wins, but in performance,
stage presence, personality, etc. I think Clay is the better finalist. But
there is such a movement for Ruben, people who think that Ruben *needs* the win
more, that Ruben will probably triumph. That's fine...I'm just glad the whole
thing is almost over.

I can't imagine how Ruben's fans would be more fanatical than Clay's.
Just the Clay merchandise and Clay fansites speak volumes. Clay's ahead
in nearly all internet polls, which is great.
I think the Ruben movement pales in comparison.

It all depends on the casual voter, not to mention all of the fans of those no
longer in the competition (Kim, Josh, etc.) Ryan said there was only a 2%
difference last week, and that will probably be even closer this week. The
judges are going to go out of their way to tell people to vote for Ruben.

I know that's what Simon meant, but to me it was ironic because Clay
would be great on Broadway. Simon also said something along the lines
of Clay having the most money-making potential, and I think that again
points to a Broadway career. I think Clay would make a great Peter
Pan. Really.

I thought the news over the weekend and last nights show was negative toward
Ruben's health. The money behind the show, are worried about losing money if
Ruben can't do the hard schedule. The weekend reports about Ruben moving
slow, sweating talking slowly only after a few songs, are trying to slant
peoples opion of him. Last nights episode saying how much Ruben likes food,
and his outfit makes him look 4 times the size of clay.

This is not an 'illusion' created by his clothing.
He IS 4 times the size of Clay.

I hope they make a movie next summer with Clay and Rueben. Make it a comedy,
and you'd have a musical Laurel and Hardy.

That might well be one of the most frightening things I've seen in awhile.
Oh, well, at least we got a glimpse of what goes behind the scenes at
Neverland.
