Now that Palin has had to slink back to Alaska, where they're all
pretty much embarrassed by her, Tina Fey can go back to her regular
work hours. And not [Tina Fey imitating Alec Baldwin] leave Earth
[/Tina Fey imitating Alec Baldiwn] like she was originally
threatening.

LORELAI: I am so done with plans. I am never, ever making one again.
It never works. I spend the day obsessing over why it didn't work
and what I could've done differently. I'm analyzing all my shortcomings
when all I really need to be doing is vowing to never, ever make a plan
ever again, which I'm doing now, having once again been the innocent
victim of my own stupid plans. God, I need some coffee.

I like that Sarah Palin character. She should keep it, just put
it into various situations (not unlike that shopping channel skit).
They could even make a movie out of the skit, just like so many
SNL skits before it.

I'm not sure Alaskans are capable of feeling embarrassment... they just
re-elected convicted felon Ted Stevens.

30 Rock would go to an altogether sur-surreal level (even for
post-modernism) if Fey started playing *both* Liz Lemon and Sarah
Palin on the show. I don't think that there's ever going to be anyone
in television besides Tina Fey herself who'll ever be in the position
to even possibly *consider* doing that, much less do what Fey has
already done with her Palin impersonation and with 30 Rock
separately.[1] Maybe Sasha Baron Cohen, but he doesn't bear any
resemblance to any national-level US politician anyway.

[1] And OMG, just think about it -- with her Emmy wins this season for
writing, starring and showrunning 30 Rock *alone* Tina Fey is already
one of the legends of television history. (Knock on Formica[a], to
make sure that I don't jinx her.)

[i] And I'm only indifferent to wood, not opposed to it But I was
talking about "as opposed to" in the sense of "rather than."

Like someone said, by Alaskan standards, Palin IS a reformer.

And apparently, it'll go to a special election to replace him.

Sasha could do a great Obama, but he'd probably need Blackface.

Senate vacancies are filled by the appointment of the Governor... guess who
that is?

The Governor fills the vacancy. If there's one or two federal elections
intervening, the unexpired term is filled by special election at the
next federal election. That person takes over immediately from the
person the governor appointed.

Both of your answers read together get us to the truth.

Vacancies in the House, on the other hand, are filled by special
election that would not take place at a federal election, not by
appointment.

Everytime I watched her I was sure we had seen her do a Palin-like character
previously but I cannot put my finger on it.

WRONG. In the case of expulsion from the US Senate, which is what
will happen to Stevens, it goes to a special election. You might be
mistaking Alaskan state legislature politics with actual federal
politics.

The governor wouldn't fill the vacancy till the special election as he
would for a resignation or death? Could you provide a citation for that,
since we've not had an expulsion in my lifetime?
