With the abysmal, 1.something ratings they were each pulling, I can
understand the networks canceling the poorly performing Arrow and Law and
Order: Special Victims Unit.
What I *cannot* understand is NBC yanking the latter a few episodes into
the season (and in the middle of sweeps!), the way you'd axe a
poorly-performing freshman show, when it's a veteran over ten years old
that deserves a more decent burial. Couldn't they have let it round out the
season and just not renewed it for 2013?
At the *very* least they should have given it a proper series finale,
rather than it just ending abruptly after a perfectly ordinary episode.
Shame on you, NBC, for treating a long-running show (and the last *true*
Law and Order show!) in such a dismal manner. Of course, that's the same
network that canceled the L&O mothership just shy of it beating the
Gunsmoke record. And the same network that brought us "Revolution". I guess
they're constitutionally incapable of doing ANYTHING right over at NBC.
Time for that whole corporation to die, in my opinion -- SVU was the last
thing they had that was worth watching.

They were canceled? I was wondering where they were when CTV didn't show either of them last night.

The last of the stable. Luckily several UK channels rerun it. I saw a Briscoe/Green ep I hadn't seen before last night.

Agreed that it was the last true L&O show. That "L&O: UK" thing is a clear
case of "in name only", since it doesn't have the proper theme music among
other things. :)
Does anyone know why there wasn't *some* sort of a proper series finale
with SVU? It *is* odd for them to just drop a veteran show like that in the
middle of the season with no proper ending, poor ratings or no poor
ratings. Even an episodic, non-serial show that old usually gets something
special, like an important character dies, or a two-hour episode, or
something else somewhat earthshaking to go out on a high note. With SVU,
though, it was just an episode like any other one week, and gone the next.
Mind you, I don't recall the finale of the mothership being especially
fancy -- on the other hand it was, at least, a spring season finale rather
than a normal episode in the middle of fall.

Because SVU has _not_ been cancelled. A new episode airs Wednesday.

So it wasn't because there was some storylone about a storm hitting New York City and a body found in the wreckage that turned out not to be storm-related?
That does happen every so often, a fictional episode lining up with some real event that week so the network decides to keep the episode off the air for a bit.

For some reason a UK channel ran it as a one off: I think we still have three series to go. It looked as good as ever. Our heroes were perhaps less charismatic, but then perhaps they were more like real cops.

This refers to an aspirant mafioso killing someone before being "made", but I don't know how it is relevant to the point at issue.

There was a two parter transparently about the right wing hounding of the Clintons. I'm not sure how they got away with that.

That doesn't make any sense.
Shouldn't "The Voice" have its own, separate slot in the schedule?
Shouldn't SVU, or anything else, be on with a new episode every week during
sweeps?
And what's going on with Arrow? It was on, but apparently one or two of the
other people in this thread didn't see it either. Was it pre-empted in some
regions? Again, that shouldn't happen during sweeps.
