Because flying from Philadelphia to Denver or Atlanta to
Colorado in a helicopter is totally possible.

"Put her down at that airport, we shouldn't have a problem

And apparently their *first* fuel stop was the "Plains Nations" - Hell,
assuming he makes a straight shot at it, he's going to have to stop to
refuel at least 5 times, probably in Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri,
probably twice in Kansas, and that puts him landing at the tower on
fumes.

From Philly? That's 1700 miles; at least one more refueling stop for
Monroe, who seems to have a LOT of helicopters. He's not even going to
make it out of PA without needing to refuel, and then he'll be stopping
in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, maybe twice in Kansas ... and just
siphon perfectly good AV gas out of machines sitting in the open for 15
years. This is Clodreamer stupid.
>

But still smiles inappropriately, just silently.

How much deep deep stupid was there on this? They don't guard the
helicopter, in enemy territory. The whole bit with 'everybody hand over
your weapon' and then they're planting knives on each other and ...
jesus, just all of it. Oh, and I love how Nora didn't even get her
dress dirty after weeks of torture.

Considering that the Plains Nation people are all starving
hobos, (despite living in the farming heartland of the U.S.)
all that gas would have been used up soon after the
electropocalypse for cooking rats and dogs and whatnot.

It's a shame this show is such shit, as the premiss is cool
and a lot could have been done but NBC just doesn't care
about the post-apoclipitic setting and ignores it at every
turn.

True. Actually theorectically they should find a lot of fuel but even
if aircraft fuel, being kerosene based, does last longer than
gasoline, 15 years sitting around would be too long in reality. But
there is also scavagers to consider siphoning off fuel over the years
to get cooking and heating fuel.

But going with the dramatic licence with the feul they, Miles and his
group and the Monroe Republic, "puddle jumped" all the way to Colorado
some 330 miles at a time maximum. Should take a couple of days at
least to cover the 2,000 or so miles. More like three.

At least they had some significant amount of time past for Rachel and
Aaron to get to the tower.

Randall I think is still alive since we saw no body.
>
>I notice Charlie barely gets any lines anymore.
-----
She had more than a few with the big cast they had. It is just that
her character isn't in the forefront of this episode's plot. Maybe
next week or the season finale when she will see her mom again. I have
this feeling that Randall-or someone else-will catch the grenade
before it detonates.

I have a feeling that the power isn't going to be turned back on, at
least not this season or the next. After all, that would sink the
premise of the show. unless one wants to turn the show into how
competeting nations want to conquer totally the land that was once the
USA, will it be under the dictatorial Monroe Republic or the seemingly
democratic Georgia Federation and its allies (if any)?

Where would you expect them to find _any_ fuel?

It's been 15 years since the electropocalypse, that fuel would
have been looted within the first couple of months after the
SHTF.

Even considering that Monroe had horse teams haul fuel out
to the border with the Plains Nation, he was still looking at an
800 mile flight to Denver.

One way.

It's okay if we see her but she doesn't speak. I wouldn't have minded
if they'd captured her, put her in something gauzy, wetted her down, and
she'd refused to speak for 21 days.

I think we could infer that they made other fuel stops along the way
before that but weren't shown them, just like we can infer that
Monroe's Huey fleet made similar stops but we weren't shown any. I
don't mind omissions like that as long as common sense can be used to
fill the gaps.

On the other hand yes the feul should have been spoiled after 15 years
even if Kerosene feul last a few years longer than gasoline. And even
then I would think that a lot of fuel would've been used up by the
locals searching for ways to heat their homes and cook their food, in
areas that don't have a lot of trees.

Gasoline and kerosene in airtight cans and tanks ought to be usable
even after 15 years, but good luck finding some. Gas and kero in
underground tanks, such as the ones at gas stations, will probably not
be usable as fuel. I agree with you that locals would have used up all
known and reachable supplies long before, or the supplies would have
been lost to leakage, fire or flood.

What is the shelf life of avgas?

Bill Albrecht, who has a heli-pad and hangar in his backyard, recently
installed a 2,000-gallon avgas
tank. His question: "What is the shelf life of avgas?"
The short answer is that, under most conditions, the shelf life of avgas
is about one year. If you are a commercial operator, this is the end of
the discussion.

There's a lot more at the URL. Auto gas is worse. The lifespan varies
up and down, but basically there's no way they're fueling choppers after
15 years.

Without adding stabilizers, fuel is going to degrade pretty quickly.
After 15 years, it won't have many of the original properties
remaining. One is lucky to get a year with gasoline in an airtight
container in a cool dark location before it loses its mojo.

Is there nothing you don't excuse with 'dramatic license'?

And license is something one is given, not something one takes or
assumes for oneself.

Which means any license the writers have, they only have at the
discretion of the viewer. If the viewer rejects it as abjectly stupid,
then they have no dramatic license.

It's even stupider than that. The helicopter seemed to be sabotaged
WHILE THEY WERE NEXT TO IT. I guess no one noticed the huge black guy
ripping shot out of the nose of the chopper while they were standing

And if he's gonna sabotage it, why only sabotage it just enough that

A vanilla milkshake with both apple pie and bacon mixed into it. Yum!

Argh. Meat products, please stay out of my milkshakes.

I think that it was the saltiness that made it so good....reminded me of
homemade ice cream when you would occasionally hit that little bit of salt
from the hand crank process.

I eat (and love) a "trail mix" that has everything from nuts to
chocolate to peanut butter chips to craisins in it, so I get the sweet
and salty bit. But there's no meat in the equation, and that just seems
like a Big Deal in this context.
