It's a brand new year, the sun ain't high, but the birds are singing
'cause you're gonna die! And I watched:

Shadow of the Thin Man (film). Stayed up late to watch it last night.
Powell and Loy were great.

Apocalypse: World War II. Stalin was a scumbag, They discuss this at
length. Also the top French generals were idiots. Unfortunately they
repeat the canard about Polish cavalry charging tanks. Let's not make
it worse than it was. They actually charged infantry (and got
slaughtered).

Worlds Funniest Office Commercials. Not a bad collection. I never
saw that Skittles human pinata ad before.

Stargate Atlantis. One of the Genii, which would be the military
dictatorship with the nukes, offers to trade them a ZPM if they'll
help him with his coup to become the new dictator. Apparently he's
much smarter than they are.

Mythbusters. The duct tape episode. They claim it really was called
"duck tape" at first. I looked it up.
http://www.octanecreative.com/ducttape/duckvsduct.html

Also you can lift a car with it, if you have enough, which does not
surprise. And you can build a sailboat with some duct tape and wire.
I believe coracles were a precedent for that. And you can make a
black powder cannon out of it.

What did you watch?

Mostly eps of the Twilight Zone off and on throughout the day.

THE O'REILLY FACTOR:
Best of "Miller Time" (2009). Dennis Miller has a rapier-like wit
that strikes a bullseye every time. I still laugh about his comment
about Borat teabagging Eminem at the MTV music awards: "Some people
like their M&M with nuts, some don't."

GHOST ADVENTURERERERS:
Scooby Douche and the gang investigate a former plantation that served
as part of the Underground Railroad, but wait, there's more! Apparently
Satanic rituals took place there as well. Yeah, whatever.

FAHRENHEIT 451:
TCM was playing the 1960's movie adoptation. I have mixed feelings about
this movie. They certainly made it look (1970's) futuristic (but it
looks terribly dated now) but the guy who played Montag (who was pretty
hot) had such a thick German accent it distracted me. It didn't help
that they totally fucked up the ending and negated the whole theme of
the movie.

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad
for them, it's failing.

Tournament of Roses Parade x3. Well, not three full times, but
first we watched the KTLA feed on a local station, then we FF'd
through my tape of HGTV's presentation, then we watched part of
RFD's rerun. Those of you who've been around for a while may
remember that I used to love HGTV's airing of the parade. That
was back when the channel made a big deal out of it. Now, they
don't even mention it on their home page, much less have the
webcams where you can watch float construction weeks in advance.
And the friend who's been visiting me said that two of the three
hosts were not gardening people but former hosts of "Entertainment
Tonight" or some similar show. Luckily, they had one person who
seemed knowledgeable about the flowers. Horticultural knowledge
and lack of commercial interruptions are the two reasons I've
liked HGTV's coverage, and the latter is available on the KTLA
feed, so without a strong flower person, they don't have much
to offer.

Then I discovered that RFD-TV was airing the parade. In fact,
research revealed that this is their second year of the parade
and third year of airing Equefest, the equestrian show that
happens a few days before the parade. So drat, I missed that.
They had a very knowledgeable horse person down on the street
providing information that the two hosts above the parade didn't
know. So we need to get that lady, the guy from HGTV, and a
music expert together on one station, and we'll have dynamite
coverage of the Rose Parade.

Then last night, my friend and I watched the "Dream Home" show
on HGTV (a very pretty southwestern-style house near Santa Fe),
followed by the premiere of "Outdoor Room," which stars the same
Aussie guy who was helping with the parade. His gig is that he
actually travels to different parts of the world to get inspiration
(and sometimes actual materials) for his projects back in the States.
On this first program, he went to Bali. They showed beautiful,
beautiful water features, houses, and carvings that he used as
inspiration for his project in Pasadena. I might try this one again.

Finally, we watched "Supervolcano," my favorite disaster movie.
The friend who's visiting likes geology and vulcanology and she
had never seen this BBC/Discovery TV movie, so I got out my tape.

Tonight: "Doctor Who"! I see that already, at least one idiot has
posted a spoiler in his subject line. So I'll probably avoid r.a.tv
until after I've seen tonight's airing.

I'm watching the Smothers Brothers Best of Season 3 dvds - I'm almost
at the 2nd infamous David Steinberg sermon skit. There's also a "What
would happen if?" skit about job and race equality with a black man
as both president and chauffeur.

I also recently watched "Tarzan" with Bo Derek scampering about. She
is mucho topless in this movie. (I'm definitely not complaining) Fans
should be civilized movie goers and watch all of the closing credit
scenes - arguably the most enchanting.

I've got an Elvis movie coming up "Wild In Country" a recent dvd
re-release and Season 7, the last one, of Mission Impossible.

I watch new stuff too. :-) I just caught up on Better Off Ted and
also started watching some Andy Richter Controls the Universe to
compare them - both produced by Victor Fresco.

I saw Terminator Salvation - it started off good but IMHO was pretty
weak in the last 1/4 - 1/3.

Obviously, to appreciate his rapier-like wit requires some intelligence
on the part of the viewer, something you have more than adequately
demonstrated you lack. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind
you -- someone has to make the fries and direct musical theatre.

I doubt that Dennis Miller has the talent for it. Remember when you were
mikey on rec.arts.theatre.musicals?

I'm still waiting--as I have been since well before the end of 2009--for
something TO watch that's not either an asinine "special", some fake
"reality" trash, or a rerun. If the internet TV guide isn't lying,
tonight(Tuesday) will be my first chance!
