This is one of many postings of a weekly summary of the films and TV programmes
which are listed in the press as being shown in widescreen format.
I'm listing those which are being shown in 16:9 or wider, which will eliminate
the endless inclusion of series and one-off dramas which are broadcast at
around 14:9 which includes :
"Karaoke" (Sunday, BBC1, 9.30pm; Monday, Channel 4, 10pm)
One programme that is being shown in 16:9 format is Channel 4's
"Fifteen To One" each weekday at 4.30pm.
For any of the films listed below, if anyone watches one of them, can they
please let me know the ratio it was broadcast in, and if known, the original
ratio of the film. Please send this info to : wi...@festive.demon.co.uk. Thanks.
Different TV channels have their own ideas on widescreen, and most these
days seem to compromise with a 16:9 ratio (ITV and Channel 4 are doing
PAL-Plus transmissions which are mainly in 16:9 but they could show films in
wider format than that if they wished), but whatever the ratio a TV channel
shows the film in, it's bound to be a better bet than the corresponding
pan-and-scan version in most cases.
The list below contains known widescreen showings for films on the four
terrestrial channels and satellite and cable too.
NOTE : All films are listed in chronological order.
Hence, for films which have a repeat on the same day, if the repeat being
is after midnight, the date to set your video is the following day.
