Ho Hum .. Yet another death. Corrie is getting to me a very dangerous place to live!
But by 'eck, we thought this bit was hilarious! 'Viewers will be torn apart....'!! Only by laughter, maybe!

Yet another one! Can you all take the emotion and excitement?!
And considering Alma hasn't been seen for about a year [give or take a few appearances] most viewers probably won't know who she is when she reappears again to be killed off!

Oh Rats - another excellent but totally under-utilised actress gone to waste. I will always remember her as one of my most favourite characters with the gorgeous eyes and the infectious laugh. Of course I will also remember her Carry on Cleo and her hilarious appearance on Are You Being Served as well.

Interesting that, for me, Susan Barlow's death had more impact than almost any other demise I can remember. perhaps because it was all done without her (no reflection on the actress) - but a) hearing the news from a grief-stricken brother b) having a draped body in the mortuary with a discreet lift of the face covering while the formal question is asked of the Father and c) the way Ken finally breaks down when he's back home and d) the way Adam finally realises what's happened. It was all pretty grim & harrowing in a way that a faked motorway accident wouldn't have been in such a low-budget show (cf those terrible tiny-tots explosions in Brookside) even though the character wasn't around long enough for viewers to develop much, if any, empathy with her. -- John Dean -- Oxford I am anti-spammed -- defrag me to reply

I agree, Alma has always been Alma, and very believable. What are they thinking of getting rid of people like Alma and hiring duds like Les Battersby and Duggie. Why don't they listen to us? :0) Pat

spot on they could have let her go off with Frank, apart from Audrey nobody in the street would miss her Steve

John I usually agree with you, but I thought it was overacted another case of trying to make a storyline out of nothing, Corrie is getting more and more unrealistic as each week goes by. I am still a fan and have watched for all the 40 years since the time I was allowed to stay up late to watch it. As for Alma being killed off after the last two years who would notice, no decent storylines for her, lets hope it is a "good" death and not just another car crash!!!
>spot on >they could have let her go off with Frank, apart from Audrey >nobody in the street would miss her >Steve
Indeed. Alma has always been one of my favourites, able to handle the drama and comedy [Corrie used to have lots of that, y'know.... <g>] equally well. As I rarely give the show a glance now, for that reason I can't say I'll miss her. I don't blame her for leaving, though ... I wouldn't blame *any* of the actors of the Real Corrie for leaving, they probably don't recognise what they're in now!
But at least I have happy memories of when Alma was actually a regular in Corrie and not just a bit-part actress, and when she actually had [Gulp!] *storylines*!!! <g> Still sorry she'll be killed off though, but it doen't surprise me, with the lack of imagination in the writing these days. Hope you all enjoy the domination of the Baldwin/Barlow custody battle/war storyline for the next 6 months ... I get the feeling there'll be a lot of it! :o)

All it showed me was that Bill Roache definitely can't act - but then we knew that anyway didn't we?

It makes no sense to kill Alma off. Someone else posted that it was just lack of imagination on the writers part and i heartily agree. And a pull for the ratings war. Why can't Alma just move away to a cottage by the sea with Frank? Why do they have to make everything sensational? Are they going to have her die in a violent method like a car crash? hohum. or are they going to remake Camille with her dying tragically of consumption in Frank's or better yet Mike's arms! >/sarcasm< i'm hoping this is another one of those made up newspaper articles and not a leak of a real storyline to come.

Thank you! That were me. :o)
And a pull

I think the problem Corrie might have these days is that there are just too *many* "'sudden 'sensational' deaths!" There was a time when a sudden death *was* a ratings puller, but there seems to have been a sudden death in Corrie every few months for the past two years!! Surely there must come a time [if it hasn't already been reached] when viewers just think "Who cares?"
Of course ... if the entire *cast* was suddenly blown up ... now that *would* get the ratings! <g>
Dreary Please. Can't act' Can't smile, Can't do anything for a fast failing soap, only hope oil tanker disaster outside Rover's ends the lot and lets start all over. Was a thread running who would you kill off harder to think who you would save. Hayley and Roy?

But just think of the effect on Mike(the rat )Baldwin, having two ex-wives die on him.
1) Will he start wondering if Alma has a secret son? 2)To lose two ex-wives is careless in the extreme. 3)Will this be enough to bring on a fatal heart attack?

and Dev of course - no that could be a story
btw noticed especially in Sundays show, how often 2 people in their own houses stand face to face to talk - suppose they are so used to do this in the Rovers.
Then I noticed the same in Emmerdale, this is a hark back the old days of 2 actors taking up the screen etc etc - ok, but now Ive mentioned it you'll see it more obviously
Now (imho) in EE this doesn't happen so much, there certainly is less face to face talking in open space, across the table, over a door-way etc etc but not quite the same as done in Corrie or Emmerdale

So Mike is going to have two ex-wives killed in a matter of weeks!, and why is it, as soon as a character finds happiness do they have to die,! Could not have Alma just left in a taxi like the others, this is too depressing!

Just out of curiousity - who has gone from the show recently - in peace and quiet ??
Mavis - retired to a B&B Maureen and Bill Webster went to Germany to live next door to R Josef Tanya & Bet's stud muffin went to Germany (what's up with Germany?) Reg went to Lowestoft Maude went to retirement home Percy did likewise Jim & Liz ????
Why does R Alma need to come to bad end - and if she absolutely must die horribly why not take Jane McNaught with her !!!!

They could always make someone die without it being dramatic. Sort of "Oh did you hear Alma died of a heart attack in her sleep last night?"
