Well, I've had my suspicions about Lucas for some time.
Remember last year when he was asking his mom for recipes?
And, this WOULD explain why Eric has stayed away so long.
Would the writers dare to do this? Guaranteed: it will be done in the
worst possible taste.

Well, first of all, Corday (or Reilly, I forgot which) has announced
unequivocally, that Eric is NOT gay so we can put that rumor to rest.
My next comment about Eric is...WOW! We're getting a pretty face AND an
actor. After my first day of Eric, I'm very impressed. I think he's
going to be just great. Maybe, after all the past failures in recasts,
TIIC have finally learned a lesson.
Bonbon
TIIC seem to have done a great job finding someone with at least SOME
of the same physical characteristics as Marlena/Sami/Carrie, e.g.
blonde, quite wholesome looking, etc. DOOL is getting better at this
at least. Abby Deveraux, Shawn D, Brady, and Belle have similar
characteristics to the actors playing their parents.
I remember in the past the casting of children was atrocious - e.g.
Hope had no physical characteristics similar to Doug and Addie, Megan
Hathaway looked about as much like Stefano as the man in the moon, and
who can forget one of the David Bannings (the one that was having the
affair with Valerie Grant - can't remember his name!) - so fair and
blonde that he couldn't possibly have been Julie's child - even in Soap
land!

I thought Eric was GREAT! It surprised me how deep his voice is --
for some reason I expected it to be higher pitched (thank God I was
wrong). And he's pretty darn good looking, too. This is the
combination we've been waiting for. And he's the first character who
actually asks intelligent questions: "You're rich, John, why don't you
just buy a house and move dad there?" But then, he hasn't been in
Salem for a while, so that's probably why he makes sense!

A gay character on this show won't happen anytime soon. They have
trouble using the minorities they've already got on the show. Wendy and
Jonah are alluded to. Lexie is a glorified extra/babysitter. Celeste
hasn't been seen in months. Abe is never involved in anything unless
it's police business. I don't think this show is a show you want to try
and take on a hot political topic.
As for Jeff Griggs, it is commonly known, and fairly well accepted that
Kristian Alfonso didn't want to work with him when she found out he'd
done gay porn. Doing gay porn didn't seem to hurt Simon Rex's career.

Wendy's ghost is the one that is used as the babysitter. They actually
tried to give Lexie a storyline. She is Stephano's daughter. But you
are right, she is a glorified extra at the moment.
> Celeste hasn't been seen in months.
They showed her at the John / Susan wedding. They showed her many times
before that. Remember she confronted ChrisTAN about the real mother of
John Jr. So she has been spotted around Salem but she is also a
glorified extra.
> Abe is never involved in anything unless it's police business.
Or if wanna be cop John calls him for something idiotic. Or needs a best
man.
DOOL does lack when it comes to minorities. It's a sad thing that it is.
Does anyone do know the racial make up of DOOL viewers? That may have
something to do with the fact that there aren't many minorities on the
show. But at least they don't go for the stereo type and make all the
minorities gangsters and shop owners.
But with the topic at hand...Eric being gay.....the only time I heard that
was in this NG. The writers are too scared to make him gay but if by
chance that they do. That would be so great!!! But I don't see him with
Lucas!!
BGC...@AOL.com
" Impressive, most impressive. But you are not a Jedi yet."
I've never heard of the topic that Eric could be gay. I'm already gaga
over him, and now, if they do that, I'm gonna fall in love with him. Heh,
and I thought I was over this kind of stuff.
Trancer
No! He can't leave!! I hope he stays around for a
long, long time, seeing as how he is the only reasonable, intelligent
person on that show.
For once, I am tres impressed with the casting team at Days. Every so
often, just when I start to lose all faith in this show, they throw me a
curveball (occassionally well written dialogue, a funny line, and now
this hottie!) and make me keep watching. Yeesh. I am such a sucker!

Jed, I need to clarify something. You emailed me with a comment about
the guy playing Jack on YR. Yeah, maybe he is. But i meant the guy
playing Jack on DOOL is gay. Sorry for the confusion.
I'm jumping on the bandwagon too. I think the new Eric is
terrific! Good looking, can act rings around almost anybody,
intelligent - can this last, or are we collectively dreaming?

Well, I didn't exactly spill trade secrets. I was simply trying to
correct an error. I didn't say anything that I think he would get upset
about. When I went back and looked over a post that he responded to of
mine, I realized he thought I meant I thought the guy that plays Jack
on YR(Peter Bergman) is gay/bisexual. I do not. I was talking about Mark
Valley the guy on DOOL that plays Day's Jack. I would never
intentionally humiliate someone by blabbing their private thoughts on
the ng.
Sorry for the complete confusion. Sorry Jeb if I said something I
shouldn't have. Forgive?

Why? I have heard it said that people would love for Eric to be gay so
that he could fight for Austin to. But i've got to wonder...is Austin
such a prize? I find Sammi fascinating, yet pathetic that she's obsessed
with a loser. I wish she'd stalk and obsess over someone with more
personality.

I think that it is, as I said, an urban myth & gossip no matter what
else it may be or not. I didn't say, but I also think that in
characterizing a gay man as a gerbil lover you create something of a
misnomer. Gay men, by definition, love men. But, don't be simple,
Simon, dearie, all manner of things happen. Ho Ho.
At any rate, if a soap were to do a good, well-written compelling
storyline about a gay person, I am confident that many people might
find it interesting. None of that is going to happen here on this
show, so it's really a long moot point. Some people are just enjoying
joking about if Eric were gay, if that was what kept him away so long,
funny idea if all the Brady kids were ga-ga over Austin, etc. I'm
inclined to let them have their fu, although I think it would be
funnier if there were another half-sib for Carrie to be involved with
(Austin, Lucas, Mike and one more) so she could have "4 of a kind".
YMMV.

TIIC very emphatically denied that Eric will be gay in Soap Opera Digest.
"Ridiculous" and "hilarious" are the words I remember them using, which I
thought was pretty offensive. Although, I think the gay community should
be relieved that the DAYS writers will not attempt to apply their "talents"
to portraying their lives.

I agree, Rick. Thank God for unanswered prayers. However, even if Eric
was to be gay, why would he "make a move" on the obviously straight
Lucas? Unless they make him gay AND stupid.

| Yeah, but remember this is DOOL we are talking about. They have
| never been ones to deal with controversial storylines well, imho.
|
| They didn't do a good job with Valerie and David way back when,
| they made a mess of Mike and Robin. IMHO if they couldn't do religion and

| them doing a well written homosexual storyline NOW.
Oh, absolutely agreed. I have no illusions about them doing a gay
storyline. Moreover, I don't want them to do one since they slaughter
ordinary stories, much less special ones. Remember when someone asked
Dorkday about the possibility of doing a gay storyline seriously, he
jabbed, "I don't think our fans want to see Roman with Abe." They
don't get it. The reason I think they won't touch it (and don't want
them, too) though, have nothing to do with what they said in SOD, etc.
Valerie & David, Mike & Robin, Mike & Robin again, Marcus & Faith,
that woman & Julie, on & on, ...
However, if people on RATSm are getting a tickle out of speculating
that cutie Eric stayed away so long because he was afraid to bring his
b/f home with him, hey, it's okay with me. Just so people know the
difference between speculation (dreaming?, wishful thinking?) and
rumor, realistic possibilities, right? <G>

| I have *always* had a problem with DOOL's inability to face controversial

Amen. Although at the time of David & Valerie, I thought they were
fairly brave to a point. It was the early 70s.
