I am also enjoying the new Abbott dynamics.
Jack divorcing Billy.
Ashley p*ssed that Billy used her $$ to write a poison pen piece on
her daughter's father.
Ashley secretly double crossing Jack and trying to buy up Chancellor
stock in the IPO without Jack knowing.
All very, very different and interesting to me. It signals a firm
return to the business stories, and I think seeing the Abbotts return
to something less schmalzy for a while is nice. They'll always love
each other, so the pain of betrayal will palpable...and the eventual
reunions will be sweet.
The other thing is that Ash is still crazy. She doesn't realize Faith
is not hers. Therefore, what will happen when her memory returns?
Will her personality also shift?
Billy Abbott is what Nick and Adam are going to bond over (FINALLY).
Unexpected, and wonderful in its way (but these douchenozzles are
going to fuck it up).

You might want to hold off on adjectives such as "firm," Mark. This
team hasn't met a storyline it couldn't poop all over (in blazing,
jalapeno-induced projectile diarrhea). So, it's a return, yes--but a
*firm* return? I'm gonna reserve judgment.
> The other thing is that Ash is still crazy. She doesn't realize Faith

Why are (any of) you expecting Ashley to realize Faith is Sharon's
baby? I don't understand. I'm half wondering if they're not going to
pretend the worst parts of the last six months didn't happen.
>
> Billy Abbott is what Nick and Adam are going to bond over (FINALLY).
So it will be especially sweet when Nick finds out that Adam stole
Faith . . . and Sharon.
Does this mean we get to veto you? Cool.
I'm a huge
> Billy Abbott/Miller fan (fave character on the show by far right now).

If this is going to be more of the Newmans throwing their money and
power around while an Abbott desperately tries to keep his business
afloat, which is certainly how it's already playing out, I'll pass.
Plus, I can't stand watching the idiocy of Billy running his magazine
out of a bar when his lawyers think he'll win . . . any lawyer would
have told him to stay put while the litigation played out. Not to
mention that Restless Style would have had a lease from Nick, and that
would likely have passed to Billy, unless specifically excluded in the
deal. I'm fairly sure there was zero likelihood that Nick's lease to
his own company would have had onerous immediate-eviction rights.
Idiocy on top of idiocy.
I could even see Adam lining up with
> Billy at some point (which would be very interesting).
Yabbott, if there were more balance in the power, that could be
interesting. But it's going to be the full wealth of Newman plus the
brain power of Adam (let's not count Nickwit's brain as an asset)
against whatever begging, borrowing and cajoling Billy can muster
up.
The whole Jack vs
> Victor thing is still in full swing, don't get me wrong (I loved Victor

We can hope. There has been something about the last few weeks that
feels promising. But I'm not ready to believe and I'm still planning
my exit strategy. Old episodes of Y&R in French anyone?
Th show improved big time this week JMO

Yes, I forgot to mention that part of the dynamics...Chancellor Industries.
Kay was very adamant about Jack not finding out about the IPO. This has
potential to become a 3-way feud (wait 'till Victor finds out about the
IPO).

Perhaps this is the positive change you had eluded to a couple months ago.
> The other thing is that Ash is still crazy.
Yeah, I had thought about that also. She was seeing things that weren't
there (over and above Adam gaslighting her). She was nutsy-koo-koo for
awhile. People don't just stop being nutsy-koo-koo without medication or a
padded room. In this case, I think TPTB have regretted the route they took
with Ashley's character (makiing her weak and hiding out in her
bedroom)...and have decided to portray her as the strong character she
should be (but without addressing how she actually goes from weak to strong
in the blink of an eye). It's certainly an about-turn from where she used
to be at. I like a strong Ashley. I despise a weak Ashley.
> She doesn't realize Faith is not hers. Therefore, what will happen when

I doubt Faith's maternity/paternity will be addressed for a very long time.
Perhaps that will bring froth generation 3 of the Hatfields and the Macoys
(along with Summer).

> Billy Abbott is what Nick and Adam are going to bond over (FINALLY).
Or..it could be the opposite. Billy is at odds with both Jack and Nick
right now. Adam may figure that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. I'm
liking the rivalry between Adam and Nick (Nick can be one smug bastard and I
love seeing Adam conspire against him). What better way for Adam to get
back at both Nick and Jack than through Billy.
Dave - Toronto
I just can't see improvement when they spend MONTHS on a story of
gaslighting and mental illness, and then ... LITERALLY OVERNIGHT ...
Adam is wearing a suit and Ashley is suddenly "strong and confident"
again, with ZERO explanation other than that she "gave birth".
I understand that when you've written yourself into a corner or
written a regrettable story, you want to move past it as quickly and
quietly as possible; however, IMO viewers deserve a LITTLE more effort
in the way of an explanation for Ashley's sudden miraculous "cure"
than giving hysterical birth ... and more in the way of a turnaround
than simply a change of clothing.
Maybe it's just me, but it's hard for me to give them high marks this
week when they pretty much just DROPPED material they were showing us
last week.

Especially when she didn't give birth.

That could be true, and then they will discover it through a blood test or
something so no blame could be firmly fixed on any of the main characters, a
mix up due to the storm etc. JMO

That would be a great start, Dave, Billy/Adam v. Nick/Vic (if we see
her again). But I hope this would eventually force the Newman (half-)
brothers back to being Newmans First, which means above all else
Kicking Abbott Ass. In the hands of the right writers (not rushy-rushy
MAB & Co.), this could be dynamite--*years* of story. Unfortunately,
with them, we'll get kryptonite.
I am willing to give them a very, very conditional pass. I'm even
willing, if their actions prove true, to go along with pretending the
last six months didn't happen. I'd prefer it if they'd write in a
"Bobby's Dream"--it could be "Adam's nightmare," or "Ashley
Dreamed..." But I don't trust them. I don't think this is a "firm
return." I would be nothing but happy to be wrong here, of course.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. If they put Billy and Adam head
to head with each other...I'm gonna be pissed!! I really like 'em both and
I'd have a tough time choosing who to root for (probably Billy).

Wouldn't it though!!?? Think of all the posibilities. The players are in
place (Billy, Adam, Nick, Victoria, and even Chance <and Mac and Cain?> to
represent the Chancellors). The younger stage is set. Could be intesesting
if, as you say, they do it right.
> Unfortunately, with them, we'll get kryptonite.
Heh!! Forever the optimist, RH.

For me, in order to be willing to give them ANY kind of "pass", I
would have to see SOME evidence to justify it, because over the last
few years, they have repeatedly destroyed the idea that if we forgive
their goofs, they will reward us with something better/improved. In
fact, we've seen just the opposite -- I can't count the times Mark has
been sure things were on he upswing followed by let-down after let-
down.
I think you're extremely generous to still be willing to give them
even more passes. My lack of willingness to do the same is based
solely on their track record over the last few years.
Shirl
I totally agree. If they regreted the storyline, they should still
give it sensible closure. Even some throwaway lines about her meeting
with a therapist a few days per week might help.

You've been doing a LOT of "pretending" lately.
To do otherwise would require not watching, the show is SO lacking in
integrity. But I gave up watching other shows in the past, and I may
give this one up, too.
The improvement was as I stated in the scenes. It has yet to be
determined if this will be true of the stories.

I certainly understand how Shirl feels, because all of you have been
watching this MUCH longer than I have, and I was sick to death of the
Adam dance, around Ashley's non-existent pregnancy. She's still nuts as
far as I'm concerned though, to believe she had a baby and had no
physical after effects. ;)

I don't know about the physical after effects, but she's certainly taken a
turn toward...mean! :-)

And when you've given birth, you *know* you've given birth! After my
first child, it took me a half hour to shuffle out to the mailbox...
