Am I the only one who can't stomach the Erica / Ryan pairing? Is this
something that Susan Lucci wanted to try to keep her "young" image? or is it
something that the writers thought the viewers would enjoy?

And I know I'm in a minority, but I wouldn't mind if Kendall is no longer on
the show, but I'll miss Zach!

Trouble is Zach so far has been written very dependent on Kendall.
He's the bad guy who wants to be good. But he only wants' to be good
for Kendall. And when he's bad, he's just plain bad, not devious the
way Adam and Palmer were.

Zach could be good as half of a Palmer/Adam type rivalry, but so far
no one stands close to him.

I think this pairing is hilarious. While Ryan & Erica are making out in the
living room of his apartment - all I can think of is the nanny upstairs with
her fingers in her ears saying "la la la" - and Emma coming downstairs and
asking "Daddy, why are you kissing Spike's GRANDMOTHER?" Keeping Erica
young, indeed.

I liked how Zach stopped and looked back before he and Kendall left. I got
a little verklempt.

I'm not watching AMC anymore, where did Zach and Kendall go? Why did
they leave?

After everything that happened, Zach, Kendall and "her boys" (she never
seems to call them anything else) are leaving for parts unknown to put their
marriage back together. They'll get in touch when they're settled somewhere.

LizG's explanation is fine for what's happening _on_ the show; behind the
scenes, the story is that Thorsten Kaye and Alicia Minshew aren't relocating
to L.A. :-(

I find it moderately nauseating. I can't stomach any scenes that are
just the two of them. Erica's simpering has been heightened by the
nearness factor of Ryan. Yuck. My FF finger is throbing.

I console myself with the thought that when Greenlee returns, she's
going to take Ryan away from Erica. Hopefully for good.

Then Ryan and Greenlee will get married and move to Alaska. Hopefully
forever.

All I could think of was that he was going to have sex with Erica in
front of the fireplace, just like he does with EVERY woman he has sex
with, and that the stain on the floor was going to widen just a little
more. And, of course, that Emma would come downstairs and see them
having sex. That's ALWAYS a possibility that NEVER seems to occur to
Ryan.

Okay, that's gross. The whole "relationship" is gross. It's harder and
harder to watch every time I see the two of them together. Maybe they'll
ditch his story line really really quickly.

It's hard to believe they _would_ ditch it, with such a long, slow buildup to
it. I think they are doing what recent writing regimes have done best:
trying to shove this storyline down our throats, but slowly and gently so
that we're less prone to gag. :-)

She shoots, she scores! Nice to have you back, albeit briefly. I'd love to
see lots of you dearly departed and very much missed fans come back to talk
about tomorrow's anniversary show -- in my fantasies, you'd come back, and so
would Jason, Shaqqie, DonnaB, Ashley L-M, Tante Joan... Have I missed
anyone?

I've already set the DVR to tape tomorrow. I couldn't miss the
anniversary of the show that started the same year I was born :-).
It would be nice to hear from Shaqqie and Ashley again! There were so
many of the regulars back in the "good old days" when there would be
TONS of posts filled with hilarious banter. All the FACs chiming in!
The memories!

Live the fantasy, Aisling! I'm all set to record it, and am hoping
EEK dispenses with the Loretta Lynn 'do and the green satin dress (I
shivered looking at her... when I wasn't gagging on "the ubercouple")
for this epi (and... well... forEVER). I watched Monday hoping the
40th would be a 2-day affair (the way Soapnet was promoting it, I
expected more... silly me).

It's going to hurt to see how good the show used to be and how far it
has plummeted. I will tear up for myriad reasons today.

Excellent! Hopefully we'll have some nice scenes to talk about.

I think ABC Daytime _did_ consider yesterday's show part of the anniversary,
because of Hayley and Mateo being there. I was surprised they gave that much
time to her character when so many others coming back will probably only have
a line or two, at most. I guess she's considered a pretty important ABC
asset!

I bet that soap holds up just as well, lo these many years later.
