oltl ending

I finished watching the last of OLTL yesterday and I was very
disappointed in the way they left it. There were many moments that I
cried like when Clint was telling Jessica she was his daughter and when
Mathew named his son Drew. But when they arrested Todd and showed Victor
tied to the bed I couldn't believe that they could not have come up with
a better ending without leaving that huge mess. I understand that they
wrote for Prospect Park (or what ever it's called) but didn't that fall
apart long before the show wrapped? It would have been nice to see the
Manning brothers clear up that part of their lives.

Except for the ending I was glad they wrapped everything else up. It
would have been nice if Ford lived and Cole died but hey guess they
didn't want Jessica to have too many good moments.

So I am not going to start watching General Hospital but I will follow
the spoilers. If it looks like Todd and John put on a good showing then
maybe I will watch but I'm not betting on it.

Feels like I just read a book with the last pages ripped out...

The deal did fall apart, but not until after the final episode had
been taped. In one instance, I think they said they had filmed an
alternate ending (I think it had to do with Bo and Nora), and they
were able to use it, but for the most part, they were unable to go
back and redo things to wrap them up.

Actually, Prospect Park didn't announce they were suspending online
OLTL until the week *after* production wrapped. In fact, I read an
interview with Erika Slezak a few weeks back where she said the wrap
party that week was kind of a happy occasion, since they all felt the
show was going on. Which just made me feel sad all over again (even
though I never really watched OLTL; AMC was always my soap). While
it's true that by the time the episode actually *aired*, things with
Prospect Park had long unraveled (unlike when the last AMC aired, when
many of us felt the online version would be coming in January),
rewrites and reshoots (or at the very least reediting) would have been
required, and I guess ABC didn't want to pony up for that.

It's really a shame both OLTL and AMC ended with cliffhangers due to
PP's faux promises. The audiences were really ripped off. Deserved
much better!

I understand a lot of how you all feel, but personally, I was not unhappy with it. Just knowing that Todd had
definitely NOT killed his brother Victor was a big plus in my book. I mean, there are huge plot holes in terms of
how Victor woundup not dead, and how Allison came into possession of him since she was in JAIL, but I am assuming
Irene will be blamed for it all.

Overall, I felt the last three weeks of OLTL were much better than AMC's final weeks, mostly because Lorraine and
Agnes had SO MANY messes to clean up!

Looking at the way you are Seth I totally agree. I think the problem I
have is that I started really taping and watching when it was announced
they were ending AMC/OLTL and I found the story lines so good (even
Jack's storyline had moments of being ok) I just could not understand
what TIIC were thinking in canceling this show. I understand it's all
money but damn the show was on fire! Guess just getting back into it I
wanted more, I still want more...

For me, too, comparing it to any number of final episodes/final weeks
I've gone through with various soaps over the years--Another World,
Guiding Light, As the World Turns--it was just so much better done,
and so much richer, that I can accept some of the things I wanted but
didn't get. It was probably the least-disappointing final week/final
ep of any soap I can think of, and I'm really grateful for that.

Well, I have a feeling that whoever has "blessed" the transfer of OLTL characters to GH must realize that GH's
only hopes are twofold--strengthen the show based on its own history, and also bring more people to the show via
the OLTL fan base. That said, I recognize that not all soaps are the same. However, listening to the podcast, Ron
Carlivati says he was GH fan for many years before he was a fan of OLTL. A nice parallel case here is that
Carlivati became HW after Dena Higley almost ruined OLTL with... MOB STORYLINES. After they got rid of all the new
nonsense they created (which included shunting aside Erika Slezak), RC really took the show back to its roots.

My own hope for GH is that Ron and Frank make GH work again while bringing in new viewers from OLTL. Ron says that
their mission is to keep GH on the air, whatever it takes. My hope is that the bulk of hte OLTL characters coming
over are NOT long term. I can see Starr settling in PC for a while, and maybe she gets visits from her parents,
etc. I am thinking that with PC on the Canadian border, maybe Todd escapes and Blair hunts him down with John
McBain to PC and they wrap up that story when Trevor St. John shows up.

The problem with Starr going to PC is that she just relocated... to LA. I really wish they had NOT had Cole follow
her to LA, because how do you explain them always being together? ANd what about HOPE?

But, Ron has a way of making stuff work. I just hope it does.

ABC *must* realize now that they made a mistake. I don't think they would ever bring OLTL back, but, personally,
if the choice was to cancel GH or have two half-hour soaps, why not have OLTL at 2 and GH at 2:30? It might seem
like a step backward, but, I would rather have that than a strange "merged" show. I think ABC must know that the
Chew AND the Revolution together now are a ratings disaster, and that disaster is not helping GH with no lead-ins!

I personally think the Chew somehow benefited from OLTL because ABC was running the Chew right up to the intro of
OLTL. Now there's no piggybacking on OLTL. I think OLTL had the best ratings, or second best after the View, of
all the shows they have on daytime.
