Chris Gleason is an uncle! Just wanted to extend my congratulations to
Chris and his family on the arrival of Daisy Lea today. Chris's sister
Andrea and the baby are doing very well and Chris will no doubt begin his
niece's training in appreciation of all things MST3K promptly.

Thank you, _querida_! The only thing greater than the joy in the family
right now is how incredibly old we all feel. That was my *baby* sister who
just had the kid, fer cryin' out loud! I remember Mom being pregnant with
her.... I felt five more grey hairs come in.

> Chris's sister
>Andrea and the baby are doing very well and Chris will no doubt begin his

Absolutely. My aunt Judy taped a good portion of the day (excluding the
birth itself), and I'm trying to figure out how to script and superimpose
M&TB onto it, so Daisy can truly appreciate her nutball family when she's
old enough to view the tape. Also, next time I go to Kobey's Swap Meet,
I'll be sure to buy an unMSTed copy of "Manos" for Daisy to use as a
teether. Drool stains on the tape could only be an improvement.

Of course, I've already committed myself to teaching this beautiful little
girl how to play center field. Oh, and she will receive the noisiest toys
ever made, courtesy of Unka Chris.

Remember: Weaning a baby on Manos is not recommended, as the horror may
scar the child for life. I'd recommend something relatively easy, like
"Girls Town" or "The Painted Hills", for introduction.

Anyways, congrats! (:

Thank all of you for your kind words. d:-) Just so you know:

All is well, and the family is in a major uproar over this. Grandparents
are fawning, uncles (one on each side, no aunties for little Daisy) are
plotting to buy really noisy toys, parents are getting pampered (so is
Daisy, but that's another story), and great-aunts, great-uncles, and
great-grandparents have spent ghastly amounts of money to give this child
all manner of spoils.

Hey, all!

On Monday, the 15th, my sisterDonna gave birth to her first child! I'm an
aunt for the fourth time, and it's the first time one of my sisters (I have
two) has had a kid.
The boy's name was Miles Raymond. "Miles" after jazz great Miles Davis
and UofA basketball player Miles Simon (who was named for M. Davis
anyway...). "Raymond" is a family name going back to my paternal
grandfather, Raymond Bliss Johnson. But, according to my bro-in-law Jeff,
he was spefically named after Raymond Roy Johnson, Jr., my older brother
who died almost 10 years ago as a missionary in India.
Anyway, Miles is home now... He's the CUTEST thing! I live near Jeff and
Donna, so I get to see him every day (in fact, I'm planning to go over
there as soon as I log off).
Anyway... Our whole family is very into sci-fi, and I intend to teach
little Miles all about MST3K (which, at the rate it's going, will still be
running when he's old enough to "get it").
That is all.

Oh, I hope it will be. I've gotten my sister's older kids started on
it, but it will be a few years before I can start working on the
youngest two. The second-oldest has been stricken with some horrible
affliction where she claims that the comments distract her from the
movie. We're doing everything we can to help her. :) The oldest,
however, is proceeding nicely. We're already at work on his next
important lesson: acceptance of the other host.

Congratulations. As a new dad myself I know what your sister is going
through. Right now I thing she needs MST3K more than Miles needs it.
Just keep her laughing and pray for the day Miles sleeps through the night.
Kids are a lot of fun and aggrevation. You got to keep laughing.

Maybe you can start him on one of the Santa Claus Movies or Jack Frost.

It reminds me, my wife's best friend bought the unmisted version of Santa Claus
for her son. The first time I saw it there I laughed so hard I cried.
She couldn't figure out why I was laughing so hard. Joyce had to explain
to her

Actually, I'm the yongest of five, but cuz my parents split up, I spent
most of life with just me and my mom. So, I sort of AM an only child.

I see nothing wrong with that.

It does get to me a little that a lot of people in my class
are straight out of college. Once, we were talking about
why we wanted to go to law school, and a lot of people said
they wanted to work for social justice or reform the legal
system... I said, "Well, professional figure skating wasn't

And if you don't mind people looking at you like you're the anti-Christ,
I recommend the Sparties Seven-Day Diaper Suit: just wrap a big lawn &
leaf bag around the kid's neck (not too tight - you don't want to cut off
circulation). After a week (give or take a few days, depending on the
kid's food throughput), you hose the baby down. Piece of cake!

In our circle of friends Noah and I were the first to get married and had
kids by the time the rest of them were just getting married. So, of
course, when they all had their kids they called me. My first piece of
advice to first time parents is to take a 3x5 index card and in big capital
letters write the word "sleep" on it. Look at it long and hard, then tear
it to shreds 'cause you'll never see it again.

Gee, Connie - I don't remember any problems getting enough sleep. :-) Of
course, I sleep much more soundly than you.

My advice (this is serious) to all the new parents (or new babysitters) is as
follows. If you've fed, changed and cuddled the baby, and it's still crying,
gently place it in the crib or playpen and walk away for a few minutes to get
YOURSELF some quiet. It won't hurt the baby, and will move you a few steps away
from strangling the screaming little maggot. Trust me on this - sometimes
they're just going to cry.

Excellent advice, JG.

1. Don't expect to watch a video without rewinding somewhere in middle
2. Don't wear anything that has to be dry cleaned for the next few years

You've guessed correctly, of course - Jungle Goddess has somehow managed
to package beauty, coolness, MSTitude and profoundly correct maternal
instincts with really bad taste in men. Of course, your proposal shows the
very same bad taste, so I'll naturally thwart your plans and accept! :-)
I am deeply honored, though - I find myself in most exalted company.

It's not easy being the daddy from Hell, you know! Think of me as the

The episode is "Krusty Gets Kancelled". (And yes, correct reference. You

Well, three points because it was a vague reference. The full 3 points
would have been if you stated "Krusty Gets Kancelled".

Deep flies? Blue-bottles into philosophy? Mediterranean fruits with
Ph.D's? What am I missing here?

Oh, right...a brain. Never mind.

I always liked the Armour hot dog commercial:

Hot dogs, Armour hot dogs
What kind of kids eat Armour hot dogs?
Fat kids, skinny kids, kids who climb on rocks
Tough kids, sissy kids, even kids with chicken pox
Love hot dogs, Armour hot dogs
The dog kids love to bite

Does anyone else remember that album cover (I think the group was Camel)
featuring a crucified astronaut suspended over the earth? The title was "I can

I saw it twice. I was on a business trip. The first time I
saw it, it was about two in the morning, and I was drunk.
It was on HBO. The whole thing had the hazy, insubstantial
quality of a fever dream. I saw it again a few days later.
I discovered that drinking had nothing to do with that
quality.

It wasn't all that *bad*, it was just... strange.

[True Confessions]I liked "Demolition Man." I thought Snipes was excellent, and
Stallone properly lumbering for the role. An interesting utopia/dystopia of the
near future. And it contains an example of a circumstance when I consider it
completely appropriate for a child to curse:

[The scene - Stallone has just rescued a little girl from her kidnappers, and
destroyed a mall doing it - the dialogue is paraphrased]
OBNOXIOUS REPORTER: How do you justify destroying a multimillion-dollar shopping
mall to save a girl whose ransom was twenty-five thousand dollars?
LITTLE GIRL: F*ck you, lady!

I was laughing so hard, I had to rewind the tape.
