*** I have not specifically worked with such a program, but as I
explained in my last post, I work regularly with tech students in various
Halifax-area schools.
My suggestion would be to speak with experienced, local professionals
from each subject to find willing instructors. Tell them that the courses
would concentrate on load-in, set-up and tear-downs, not necessarily with
training students to actually work the performances, although the latter
should at least be touched upon. (I have used trainee students as follow
spot or lighting board operators in the past.)
The course would best be taught at a school with a theatre that also
caters to outside productions so that students will have real-world
training. This is the case here with two local high schools that have arts
centres right in their buildings. When we go in these schools to do
productions, I always ask for students to assist us. If it's a non-school
production, they get paid as well, although I have paid students from time
to time for their school projects, as well.
