Holocaust Monologues

Hi all,
I'm having a difficult time finding monologues from Holocaust
plays. If anyone knows of one, or has a favorite, please let me know
where I could find them. If they are on the Internet, that would be
even better, or if you feel the burning desire to type them in an
e-mail message, that would be amazing!

Try Peter Weiss "The Investigation" Any of the scenes can easily be cut
to monologues. Your problem will be choosing. The play is based on the
N'burg trials and derived form testimony of both victims and perp's.

Sorry, I don't have a copy of the play...but I Love You I Love You Not
is a terrific play for two women, grandmother, granddaughter...the
grandmother is a holocaust survivor and much of the play deals with
that. I believe it was written by Wendy Wasserstein.

I don't know if it's already been suggested, but "I never saw another
butterfly" has greta monolgues for women
Also, I've seen parts of Sophie's Choice adapted into monoluges as well .

Visit http://www.gate.net/~snw and check out the play "Angel: A Nightmare
in Two Acts." It's not the whole play on the site, but it's the bulk of
it. There's a strong monologue by the character Olga in Act I, in which
she describes how her family came to be at Auschwitz.

try Born Guilty there are some WONDERFUL monologes in there... you'll
have to find it though.. i dont remember the author's name...

Also, check out "Playing for Time" by Arthur Miller. Many decent
monologues about the Resistance, Holocaust, being half-Jewish or
completely so...and it is also an extremely moving play. Carried by DPC.

There's a very fine Australian play called "TWO" which has some pearlers
in it. Several from the Rabbi who talks about his experiences in and
out of Aushwitz and another from 'Anna' who talks about her German
father forcing her to denigrate and abuse her Jewish mother. Powerful
stuff. Good play, too - only two actors and good sound and lighting guy
needed. Check it out.

Center of American Indian and Minority Health
By far the most powerful monologues related to the Holocaust that I know
of are the transcripts from Claude Lanzmann's film Shoah (published by
Pantheon). Using non-fiction monologues raises a lot of interesting
questions about performance and ethics. I mean, if someone were to use
one of these monologues - testimonies, really - as an audition piece, it
would be easy to think of it as exploitive. But how is that different
from using a fictional, first-person Holocaust monologue as an audition
piece? And if a non-fiction testimony is the best piece you can find to
represent your talents, and if you find these transcripts more effective
than a monologue from KINDERTRANSPORT et al, then are you still doing
anything exploitive by performing them? (And is this any different from
doing a monologue based on Anne Frank's diary, one which has already
been adapted for the stage and thus is first-person documentary and
a 'play' at the same time?)

The author of "Bent" is Martin Sherman.
NORTHANGER ABBEY
BENT only has one good long monologue, when the lead is talking about when
the SS made him kiss a dead body to prove that he wasn't gay.
He's got another moment, right before he kills himself at the end of the show,
but it's not really "extractable", and wouldn't make sense out of context.

A brilliant Play is The Puppetmaster of Lodz by Gilles Segal. The
character Finkelbaum is a survivor of Auschwitz and a genius puppeteer who
has created an imaginary life story in an attic in Berlin. Recommended
highly.
