I added the newsgroup rec.arts.theatre.stagecraft... the technical/
design folks tend to congregate there and this question is more up
their alley...

If you still have time to make them... I did a production of the show
some time ago where a local artist fabricated beautiful heads out of
reeds held together with masking tape, and we fabricated the feet out
of some electrical hardware... something like boxes with one end cut
out and held on with elastic. That of course didn't give them any
extra height, but the sound was very effective.
