As usual The Post has printed an article which is totally without merit.
In today's issue they go on and on about the transfer of 1776 to The
Gershwin. Only one problem. Not happening. No transfer. Dead issue.
It mustn't be easy to be Mr. Ward Morehouse III and get practically
everything you print wrong. If they'd stop accepting things they hear
through the grapevine or from publicists as gospel, they'd be a lot
better off. An announcement was made to the company yesterday.

Do people actually take The Post seriously?

Very sad to see such a wonderful show close like this.
I am still clinging to the hope that there will be some generous
billionaire theatre-lover out there who will save this show in the nick
of time.

I guess extending their Roundabout run indefinitely is not an option?

It amazes me how some shows make it to Broadway
with very little evidence of how they will perform,
while a proven hit cannot make the transfer to
an open-run Broadway house. That SWINGIN' ON
A STAR and DREAM were able to have open
runs and 1776 cannot is beyond me....

I agree completely. As the Hollywood Reporter wrote in its opening
night review, "THIS (1776) is the kind of show that should run on
Broadway forever, not some awful piece of garbage about singing felines"
maybe I'm paraphrasing but you get the idea! :)

Say, who said all producers have taste? If they did, maybe Broadway would be
"dying."

Correction to my last e-mail: It should have said:

This reminds me of what a friend of mine who saw the second half of
"Broadway on Broadway" on Sep 7 (I only saw the first half) told me about
the performance of "Memory": that there was a sigh going through the
audience, like "Oh no, not that song again!" (although I still think it's
a beautiful song...)
