little on the formatting. I know that if I was to go to single space
lines instead of double space -I would have less pages. I was thinking
that I could try printing on both sides of the page as well . Has
anybody tried this and submitted it to contests? Will a theatre regect
your manuscript if it is not so kosher? Will they even tell you if the
formatting is wrong?

It's a safe bet that if the contest or agent or whoever has said anything
about format, that they will ignore any submissions that are not formatted
according to those instructions. Probably without telling you. Ease of
reading trumps number of pages, and single side printing makes it easy to
keep track of which stack is "I've read these" and which is "I haven't read
these yet." because most folks, reading a stack of loose pages will lay the
one's they've finished aside with the printed-side down (and therefore
blank-side up.)

A friend of mine commented that I should not submit the synapsis
unless it is double spaced too! I had always seen synapsis in single
space and not double space. I guess it is supposed to be like this to
make it easy to make comments if they want to.

That's "synopsis". (Wouldn't normally bother, but this is something you
really need to know. "Synopsis" is literally Greek for
"together-seeing", so the "op" is as in "optical".) "Synapsis" is also a
word, but it's from cellular biology.
