the real-timeline Kobayashi Maru.

No dumber than the writers having him actually eating an apple during
that scene. Or having it be obvious that Kirk knew the system had been
hacked by the way he was talking and not having the instructors abort
the test immediately (even if they didn't know HE had done it, he
clearly knew the Klingon ships would be shieldless ahead of time and
that would have thrown up a red flag).
