1) Physical Seperation of Warp-speed ships from normal space:

Consider relativity. Under this, time is dependant on (1-v**2/c**2)**(1/2).
Thus, if v>c, we have one minus something >1 under the sq. root.
Time does not flow backwards for something going FTL. It becomes a complex
number, which is REALLY funky. I won't even try to describe how funky.

2) NCC - meaning?

I have to agree, it probably is similar to the US navy's use of "CV", "BB",
"DD", etc. for ship numbers. Maybe N does stand for naval, maybe not.
<Shudders> FASA actually comes close to this, proposing seperate series of
registry numbers for ships with different purposes.
