Spoiler alert! Spoiler alert! Spoiler alert!
All hands abandon review if you don't want to be spoiled.
This entire episode is a too much for me to buy because the premise is
untenable. Face it, folks, if the bad guys were there to just buy
something illegal from Quark, they could have come in at any time, not
during a plasma storm after the station had been evacuated. Obviously, all
the elaborate precautions meant that *something* other than your everyday
black market transaction was afoot.
If Quark is permitted to remain on DS9 after this, the Bajoran security
ministry consists of idiots. Don't get me wrong: I like the comic byplay
between him and Odo, but Quark has gone from being a likeable rogue to
being a security threat and unmitigated creep. No administration worth its
gold-pressed latinum would allow him to get away with things he's pulled in
the past and remain on the station.
That being said, it would have been an okay episode if the writers had come
up with a credible way to get the terrorists aboard the station, and if
Terry Farrell could act her way out of an airlock. It was so ... how shall
I put this? ... predictable, yeah, that's it. If you couldn't figure out
what was going to happen next, you were probably in the kitchen at the
time. And when you returned, after cooking a four-course meal, you most
likely didn't have to have your roommate give you a run-down of what you
missed.
In fact, it was so by the book, you've most likely predicted the ending of
this review just as easily as you could anticipate the next line of
dialogue. "Invasive Procedures" wasn't bad, it wasn't good, it wasn't
really much of anything, not even cotton candy for the mind. With cotton
candy, at least you're aware *something's* there, if only briefly. Ho-hum.
My grade: C (even writing the review is boring)
Maybe next week?
