I think I just need to say about Star Trek the same thing I did about
Terminator after T2. T3 was fun, and there have been some things since
DS9 that were OK to watch, but for me the Star Trek "canon" has to end
somewhere, at least before the latest reboot. The Romulans and
Klingons and such didn't go back to Berman and Braga, who did do a lot
of quality stuff with them before, (I'll admit, Voyager and Enterprise
had problems, DS9 was the last "must watch" ST show for me) they went
back to Gene Roddenberry. Nemesis sucked but then again it went pretty
far from the canon stuff about the Roms anyway. There was literally so
much they could have worked into Nemesis. Recurring characters from
the show, as was done with Star Trek II, the whole Spock on Romulus
angle from the show, and they messed up the movie. It seems they
figured they messed up on the "classic" aliens once and rather than
get a better writer they'd just burn the whole canon down. The new
effects and origin story were neat, we'll see if it goes any distance.
Because as much as people criticise Berman and Braga, they got a whole
lot of years of good stories out of Star Trek. Roms in colonies or as
a Diaspora might be neat but we will see if they can make any kind of
run of it past the first movie.
