Suppose you decide to take her out for maneuvers, after midnight, Dec. 7. How does that play out? There's a book here, waiting for a serious writer. Or... more »

Science Fiction Coming True!
This news story (about a thin, flat lens made from a material with a negative index of refraction that can be sprayed on glass as a coating) [link] although it doesn't correspond to a _common_ theme in science fiction, is still the sort of thing that is so unexpected that most of us would... more »

Is this an Atheist convention?
Now, i figured out how Jodi Arias could have been found not guilty. Her lawyer was no help to her.. simply because Jodi Arias was sitting on the wrong side of her lawyer! If Jodi Arias was sitting on her lawyers left side, instead of her lawyers right side, then her lawyer would only see Jodi Arias Good Side.... more »

Charles Williams's <The Silver Stair>
I'm considering doing a longish post about Charles Williams. I'm getting the impression that the borders of genres, in his work, aren't as strong as they could be, so I don't want to confine myself to the novels (one of which seems to have a short-story sequel), even with the addition of the more accessible Arthurian verse, but... more »

YASID lizard aliens at war
I would have read this novel late in the 70's or early 80's. Humans are in a long war with a lizard like alien race and are loosing. There's a plan to breed a super Human from four different races of human. I remember a scene where a woman is reading a manual on how to perform sex and the manual is all about how to connect two space suits together from when her "race" lived in space suits. One of the grandparents for the super human was captured in the steaming jungles of Earth and is sure he will die right after siring one of the parents of the super human.... more »

Sanderson, Brandon: _The Rithmatist_
Finished: 5-19-13 Brandon Sanderson, _The Rithmatist_ Tor (2013) ISBN: 978-0-7653-2032-2 Score: 2 Start of a YA steampunk series with a magic system based on drawing figures in chalk. I'm not sure the twists at the end make any sense, but still an enjoyable story. -- Konrad Gaertner - - - - - - - - - - - - email: kgaert...@tx.rr.com... more »
