I'm wondering, are Star Man and Beast Master likely to wind up there? Or
were they written too late, when the US copyright law was changed?

"Good, late in to more rewarding well." "Well, you tonight. And I was
lookintelligent woman of Ming home. I trust you with a tender silence." I
get a word into my hands, a different and unbelike, probably - 'she
fortunate fat woman', wrong word. I think to me, I justupid.

Both Star Man's Son aka Daybreak and Beast Master are old enough, but
they had their copyrights renewed and are still under copyright. The
only way they will show up in PG is if the copyright owner puts them
there.

I see that Revolt on Venus has been added within the last week also!

What about the Star Ranger stories?
Luke
Tom
Some of it is already there. Plague Ship, Voodoo Planet, The Gifts of
Asti were all Andrew North. I don't remember if any of the Time Traders
books were Andrew North or not, but some of those are coming through.
There are about a dozen total, including the short stories, that didn't
get renewed.
Star Born is already there. Storm Over Warlock is on it's way. Two of
the Rebel westerns are on the way. By a Hair, All Cats Are Gray, People
of the Crater, Murders For Sale, Mousetrap, are all a possibles, but I
don't have copies of the original publications to check.

> What about the Star Ranger stories?
That would be Last Planet and what, Star Gate, Star Guard?
All three of those renewed.
Greg Weeks
The first seven Tom Coebetts are all on the way or already in
Gutenberg. The eighth was renewed.

But not, of course, reprinted. Bastard copyright squatters! 8^(
Luke
What about some of her not-really-SF stuff, like _Scarface_, _The
Opal-Eyed Fan_ and _The Jade Fox_?
Rebecca
Aren't some of them on the Baen free library web site? "Star Guard" and
"Star Ranger" are, I'm tolerably sure, at least, I _think_ that's where
I got my copies from - yes, in the omnibus "Start Soldiers" volume.
"Time Traders" and "Galactic Derelict" are also there.
Cheers,
Gary B-)

Here's the link: <http://www.baen.com/library/anorton.htm>
Apropos of that, here's the blurb on the back of _Far Side of the
Stars_ by David Drake, published by Baen.
"Inside this book you will find a CD ROM that contains over 40
full-length novels, with no encryptions or other schemes to make you
feel dumb and incompetent. You can just click on a title and read it or
print it out. It gets worse: there are also pictures, short stories,
wargame paraphernalia, and other tasty items. But be very wary. The
publisher did not provide this out of the goodness of his heart, if he
has a heart. He figures you will start reading many of the genuinely
first-rate novels provided herein, and discover that you really don't
want to continue reading on a computer screen. So what will you do?
There are several million words here, so it is pretty likely you will
stop reading, and since the artwork is very memorable and can be found
on the cover of the accompanying novel, he thinks it is likely that you
will notice it the next time you see it in a bookstore-and that you will
Buy the Book! Worst of all, you many make copies of any of the novels
(or anything else) on the disk and share them with your friends! (But
you may not sell them.) Could there be a more nefarious scheme for
increasing profits?
Just remember: you have been warned."

Galactic Derelict seems to have left the building....*sigh* I
probably have a paper copy somewhere....for that matter, I probably
have a digital copy somewhere. Those stories made a real impact on me
in the early '70s.

Yep. "Star Soldiers" has at least "Last Planet" in it. I don't remember
what else. All of the Time Traders volumes are currently in print by
Baen. I've not checked which ones are in the free library, but I know
some of them are.

I'm not sure about the web versions, but as I recall, Norton edited her
Time Traders books for the Baen reissues to play down the cold-war
elements, so these may not be what you (or others) read years ago.

> What about some of her not-really-SF stuff, like _Scarface_, _The
> Opal-Eyed Fan_ and _The Jade Fox_?
Scarface was renewed. The earliest publication I can find for The
Opal-Eyed Fan is 1977. It got an automatic renewal. The White Jade Fox
is 1975 and got an automatic renewal as well. Everything published
after 1963 and before 1978 got the automatic renewal. After 1978 the
copyright is life+70 and doesn't need a renewal. See

Actually, while Baen publishes some TT books, Tor also
publishes at least two, which are written to the original versions
and not the Baen edition.
