I could say the Marshak & Culbreath abominations were so because of
what they did to the story universe, but then I would have to deal
with a raft of replies asking, "Who??"

To me they sound like much the same complaint.  In that packages of
the original Star Trek still show no involvement by JJ Abrahms, or by
Brannon & Bragga, or Jeri Taylor, or Michael Piller and Ira Steven
Behr, or Harve Bennett, or Lou Sheimer and Hal Sutherland, but do
include the involvement of Fred Freiberger, it all seems like
over-reacting.
