I hate shift key work because I am a one finger typist. So that
explains the lack of capitals. Where a title includes a comma, the
title is enclosed by asterisks, so that explains that.

If you're using Windows, check accessibility options -- specifically,
"sticky keys". There's almost certainly something equivalent for Macs.

Post-1986, there's Iain (M) Banks. Player of Games is a good novel to
start with, many (myself included) think Use of Weapons is his best,
but its not as accessible. Iain Banks without the M writes 'normal'
fiction - The Crow Road is the book that everybody likes, but The Wasp
Factory, The Bridge, and Complicity are also great.
You don't have any Ballard on your pre-1986 list?

On Macs, look for the "Easy Access" control panel in the "Control Panels"
submenu of the apple menu.

At least on system 7 and before.

The only J.G. Ballard which I had at that time were - The burning
world, The crystal world, and The wind from nowhere. For whatever
reason, they did not make the cut.
