SCI FI - ARIZONA REPORT
Mid-June, 1997
Several months worth of planning have come to fruition at Sci Fi - Arizona
over the past week. Things are changing so quickly, that you may not
recognize the site when next you visit us. We offer this report as a
public service for our regular visitors and for everyone who is interested
in science fiction and writing. Our Writer’s Workshop now contains more
than 50,000 words of free articles.

THE ART GALLERY IS NOW OPEN!
Don Dixon's paintings of other worlds, both real and imagined, have made it
possible for many people to experience the beauty of the universe. His
spacescapes have graced over 60 book covers, scores of magazines, and are
in the collections of Ray Bradbury and Larry Niven. We are extremely proud
that he has chosen to exhibit his work in the Sci Fi - Arizona Art Gallery.
You can download images and use them for wallpaper, or else purchase a high
quality print signed by the artist.
The first thing I did as soon as we had the gallery operational was order
one of his prints. If you enjoy space art the way I do, then you will
want to see the nine prints currently in the gallery. And in the coming
weeks and months, we will rotate the prints frequently.
WE NOW HAVE REAL BOOKS!
We have something new and unique at our virtual bookstore -- REAL BOOKS! As
a result of numerous requests, Sci Fi - Arizona is now offering hard copy
books of the novels you have been downloading as electronic files for the
past six months. The books are similar to large format trade paperbacks in
size, but much closer to hard cover books in quality. If you find that you
have trouble reading your PC in bed, then we have the solution for you – a
new miracle material for pixel display called PAPER!!!
GIFT BOOKS UPGRADED
Our limited edition novels in which you specify the names of the characters
have also been upgraded. The gift shop books have improved art and
binding. They have also been reduced 50% from their original price.
SAMPLE CHAPTERS
Also by popular request, we now have sample chapters available for our
novels. Are you interested in a book, but not sure you will like it based
on the short excerpt on the book's home page? No problem. Download the PDF
formatted sample chapter. This will give you a several thousand word
excerpt to allow you to judge whether you like it before spending your hard
earned money.
WRITER’S WORKSHOP
The June articles are available in our Writer's Workshop. This month we have:
The Art of Writing Series: "The Practice of Dialogue" A 5000 word article
discussing the basis of dialogue in fiction and the differences between
dialogue and speech.
The Art of Science Fiction Series: "Time Travel in Fiction" A 5000 word
article summarizing the physics of time travel.
STILL AVAILABLE
The Sci Fi - Arizona Astrogator's Handbook. The handbook looks at local
space as it is viewed from outside. It includes 3-D layered star maps that
show every star within 125,000 cubic light years of space and their
relationships to one another. This is a must for science fiction writers
who want to make sure that they have their stars in the right place in the
sky.
SHORT STORY CONTEST
The new Australian Science Fiction Magazine Altair is hosting a short story
contest. First prize is $1000 and publication in the first issue of the
magazine. Deadline for submissions is November 1, 1997. Click here to
