John Varley's _Titan_ was mentioned recently. I've (mercifully,
deliberately?) forgotten most of the third book, as it really went off
the rails of what I'd thought the story to be. But I also don't
recall what would have been happening in the middle book; I'm
interpolating more of the first, with depressing twists.
