A friend asked me this. It is a movie or TV series,
not a novel, but it is SF

The movie about the android is probably THE QUESTOR TAPES, a 1974
TV-movie about an android named Questor, not Nestor.

The rest rings a bell, but no more than that, at least for me.

I suspect it's "The Phoenix" --
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phoenix_(1982_TV_series) -- instead.

I'm guessing the series you're looking for is The Phoenix, a
short-lived TV series. The only android I can think of which would fit
your description would be Questor, from The Questor Tapes, IIRC.

I'm pretty sure that everybody is correct
about Nestor being Questor.

But I do have a vague memory about a
short-lived TV show where the heroes have
one metal plaque with inscriptions from
ancient astronauts. There were a total
of eight plaques, and you have to obtain
them all and assemble them to read the
message.

And of course there were other powerful
individuals who wanted to do evil to
the protagonists and steal their plaque.

Somebody told me this was probably
"Search for the Gods"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073673/
