Not bad. He was almost the first to report it.

Ok, maybe it's me, but where is the tour schedule. I see the bio, the map
and the "more info" page which gives info about what will happen, but I
don't see the actual schedule of tour dates. Any help?

Thanks.

Ummmm... Well, nav bar at the top has the Bio, then the Map, and then a
bar that says Author Appearances - that'd be the one.

- Vermilion, not quite sure how you saw the first two and missed the
third...

It was mentioned that he would be appearing at The Stars Our
Destination, though on which day or both, I don't know.

Kickass bookstore, BTW. It took loads of willpower to keep from
spending my entire stash when I was there for the Social. Either
take a lot of cash to indulge the impulse or take along someone
with a big stick to beat you and say "You *can't* afford it!".

Well, for the LOC tour, he did one signing at The Stars Our
Destination, and one at some chain store out in the 'burbs. Hopefully
he'll be coming back to Stars, which is by far my favorite bookstore
anywhere.

to see the guy. Nice bookshop, if a bit WaldenKrochBorderBrentano&Dalton-ish.

I emailed PNH about this, and got a very nice reply from him that he's
kicked the appropriate people in the butt to get more useful information
out there for us.

Hopefully, it will do some good.

Not Forbidden Planet... unless I asked too soon. That's where
he did his signing in '94, but the clerk told me he knew nothing
about any Jordan signing this time around.

I suspect we shall find out shortly.

I checked with Stars and they said he will be there on Nov. 7, but they did
not know the exact time yet.

I have to travel one hundred and sixty miles to Winnipeg for this. On
the bright side, I have advance notice of the event so I can start
making plans.

Well, not _quite_ how I put it. :)

Anyway, yes, sorry about that. A more useful schedule is On The Way. As I
imagine you understand, these things get complicated. I guess their
thinking was that, at least, we could distribute the information about which
cities he'll be in on which dates. We don't actually expect you to play

And the individual bookstores hosting the signings do tend to advertise
that fact a little closer to the actual event... Granted, this doesn't do
much for the fan who's planning to drive a hundred miles to go to a
signing, but those people are cracked, anyway. If you're _in_ the city in
question, I would imagine that the local paper/ literary supplement would
be chock full of ads for the signing...

It's not _that_ unreasonable a schedule...

We don't actually expect you to play

Given Jordan's military background, that'd probably be a bad idea...

(Though there are some people I wouldn't mind seeing bludgeoned to
death after an overenthusiatic Author Hunt...)

Shetterly it was. It's a good one, though I thought the Corinthian only
spoke once during the con, during which speech Morpheus showed up. I
don't have _The Doll's House_ around, though, and I could be
misremembering.

And of course there's always _Misery_.

Anderson's in Naperville. For the _Lord Of Chaos_ signing. I saw you
there. Or at least, I probably did, though I didn't know it. Along
with "Nancy from Chicago" (who hasn't been seen here for a long time),
we stuck around and chatted with RJ and his wife after the crowd left.
A nice lady, Harriet. She was actually more fun to talk to than RJ.

This year, I'll have to hit "The Stars Our Destination", seeing as it's
just a ten-minute El ride. Probably less potential to chat with RJ
one-on-one afterwards, but Belmont & Clark is a fun neighborhood...

I remember you. You were the perplexed-looking guy with a copy of Lord in

I found RJ to be more than a little, erm, how to say this without bringing
down the wrath of the wregulars...unfriendly? No discussion, no questions,
very machine-like in the sign-em-and-shoo-em-along process. Harriet was a
great deal of fun, yah sure, you betcha. I hope she comes along on this
tour.

*Yawn* *Awakening from a 2 year lurk* Don't worry Jim, you're
not alone on your impression of RJ. When I saw hin in Naperville, he was
not very "talkative" at all. Asked about how his tour was faring and got
squat for an answer. Maybe he was better at the downtown sighting. I
only remember that a women had driven all the way from Iowa to this
little bookstore to see him. His wife, on the other hand, was an absolute
joy. I had a wonderful conversation with her for almost half an hour. Oh
well, I got my books signed. Maybe his disposition will be better
this time around.

P.S. I've been out for awhile, would someone mind telling me what
the deal with "New Springs" is (or is it Legends?)? Is it the prologue to
PoD or is it just another article that touches on WoT just to keep us
busy? Thanks.

That's weird -- when I saw him in Nashville on the aCoS book-signing tour,
he seemed quite happy to chat. Although I'll admit that Harriet was even
more pleasant. Nice woman.

"New Spring" is a novella (if you aren't familiar with the term, just
think of it as "long short story" in the _Legends_ anthology from Tor.
It concerns Moiraine's first meeting with Lan, and the beginning of the
search for the Dragon Reborn.

That's what I do, because I don't WANT to get familiar with the term.

No, really: I think it's silly, this dividing short stories into sub-
categories of varying shortness, shortishness, and not-so-shortness.

When will we get, say, "the novellaelette; 14,250 to 15,750 words"?!?

It's all just a scam, to get more huge and nebulous award categories.

It is there to get more categories, but it is not a scam. From 1960 to
1966, they tried having only one "short fiction" category, but found
that few short stories were even nominated. Since 1968, the categories
have remained unchanged, so I don't think we have to worry about sudden
increases in the number of categories.

Well, he didn't give a "within-WoT" story explanation. But "Easing the
Badger" and the picture of the dancing badger and the man with a golden
(not silver, like in his book) shovel came out of a history book RJ had
read. (His wife remembered the name, but I forgot it, along with the
historical period.) There was a group in England who used that name and
had that iconography on a banner. He didn't know anything about the
group other than that, but his wife speculated that "Easing the Badger"
could be something like the "Upping of the Swans", which was the annual
count of the swans living in the royal gardens.

For what it's worth, when he signed my book, he wrote "You're too young
to know what 'Easing the Badger' means!"
