Clever uses of Gateways:
By Aes Sedai and damane: Horizontal gateways set well above the
battlefield for scouting purposes. I'm surprised that no one thought
to hurl fireballs down through those gates at enemy troops, and that
the Forsakens didn't duplicate that tactic.
Gates used to send messages.
Talking through Gates.
The Seanchan flying through Gates.
Huge Sharan armies pouring through miles wide Gates!
By Asha'man and AS: Sending fireballs, lava, and cannonballs through
the old fashioned vertical gates. Venting cannon smoke through
horizontal Gates.
Androl making a Gate in front of himself to send enemy weaves through
to the backs of his enemies!
Gates used to protect from balefire.
I'm surprised that there weren't damane/sul'dam pairs on raken hurling
fireballs down on the enemy.

that people could touch the sides of gateways...I thought that if you
did that, you'd be sliced...it seems that it wasn't an issue, which I
thought odd. I could be remembering incorrectly though from previous
books in the series.

I thought it was only the opening gateway that sliced you, and that
was still happening ... but once open, I think you still need to avoid
the edges.

No I did not put up any warning signs saying "Don't Touch The Sides Of
Gateways!".
