in KOD, we see a clear reference to a gun, which is called as something
from the age of legends., when elayne goes to find out the black ajah(i

so, this would mean that our time being the age of legends, could
channeling be due to some possible form of mutation at a brain level?

and now that rand has lost one hand, would that mean that some of the
weaves wont work that well? for eg, LTT asked why he couldnt see his
hands, before using that fireball spell?

and since rand can feel moridin, is it possible, that like harry potter
and voldemort, rand can find out what moridin is thinking or vice
versa?

and what info do we have about ilyena? apart from knowing she was LTT's
wife and he liked her over lanfear

I really don't think that's a gun, nor do I think that ours is the Age
of Legends. We're quite clearly missing shocklances, flying cars, and
giant tree people.

Most of the references in the books place our Age as the "Age before the Age
of Legends".

I would guess that the dividing line between the two would be the
(re)discovery of how to channel the One Power.

Remember that the world of WoT is built on the idea the time is
cyclical. While yes, I believe there are some possible references in
the books to a time like ours (TEotW, chap 4: Len going to the moon,
Merk and Mosk with lances that could reach around the world, Alsbet the
queen of all, Materese the Healer Mother of Wondrous Ind), I don't
think the AoL is ours. More likely, ours is one of the times (long
past/yet to come) before the AoL.

I didn't see it as a gun, either. In fact, at risk of what respect I
have left, I must say it reminded me of an "Agiel" from Terry
Goodkind's writing. Depending on the pressure/force with which it is
applied, the Agiel can sting, bruise, break, or obliterate the part of
the body it touches and all underneath.

The Agiel, however, hurts the user to hold as well, and I'm guessing
this device from KOD does not.

It depends on how he learned the weaves. I can't seem to recall any
instances where Rand is mentioned as motioning whilst chanelling in an
everyday manner, i.e, moving chairs, heating wine, etc.

If you learn a weave along with a hand motion, or while wiggling your
but or whatever, then that motion becomes *part* of the weave for
*you*. Since that's the way you learned it, it becomes extremely
difficult, if not impossible to weave it without the accompanying
motions. Call it a mental block, or what have you.

That's why LTT couldn't weave the Blossoms of Fire; he had learned the
weave with the hand motions, and since Rand maintained control of his
hands, LTT couldn't weave them. Once Rand let LTT have control over
his hands, LTT could do what he needed to do.

After a little research, Rand makes no noted motions in his battle
with Rahvin in T'A'R', but does when he begins to channel balefire but
changes to the fire filaments in his fight with Sammael in Illian. And
then again when he actually does use balefire against Mashadar and
again against Liah and Sammael. He doesn't when weaving gateways.

So, it seems that "projectile" type weaves are inherently "shot" from
the hands, while others are not. And of course, this is not inclusive,
Avi shoots fireballs with no motions.

Nor was I attempting to make it sound like rocket science. The
original poster asked a question, and I answered. The original poster
seems maybe to have missed that reference, and I felt it would help to
point it out. I would expect most everyone else in this thread was
familiar with that passage. Thus, the reply was directed only to the
original poster.

RJ has stated that Nyms are in fact "constructs" (and thus not be able
to travel), just as Trollocks and Myrdals (though obioulsy of earlier
creation, as they excisted during AoL). Genetic engineering, posibly
combined with OP, should certainly make them possible.

However, I don't realy think that we are living in AoL, the OP is
sertainly missing...
My personal theory is that we are living in "The age before the AoL",
and that the AoL is about to come quite soon now (within a few hundred
years at the latest), just as soon as someone named "Tamyrlin"
discovers the OP (see WoTFAQ 2.4.06).

Might Rand decide that he has to die to kill Moridin, like Harry Potter had
to die to eliminate Voldemort's last Horcrux?

I had the clear impression that the series was set in our far future
(with at least one flashback to a less distant future.)

But with history being cyclical (though perhaps not with exact
repetition), it could be both in our future and in our past.
