SFTV News & Info
New Season Ratings Review
Most of the new genre shows debuted relatively strong compared to
expectations. Pushing Daisies and Bionic Woman debuted the strongest
although Bionic Woman dropped a good amount of viewers in its second
week. Other shows like Chuck, Journeyman, and Moonlight, dropped
as well in their second weeks, as expected, but may be stabilizing
some. Reaper on The CW was pretty low to begin with, but appears to
have settled in a bit after three episodes.
On cable, Stargate Atlantis returned with a 1.2 rating for the first
episode of its new season, which is comparable to what it was
drawing in the last batch of new episodes this summer. Considering
the lead-in support of Flash Gordon was a .7, Atlantis did pretty
well with no lead-in support. I don't think even airing the Galactica
minisodes (see below) will help bring up Flash's ratings.
Regenesis in US Syndication
I forgot to mention this and start listing it with the last update.
The Canadian series Regenesis is now airing in syndication in the
US, mainly on the weekends. There have been three seasons of 13
episodes produced so far and it is starting out with the first episode.
I haven't been able to find a US based site with schedule information,
but to read more about the series, visit their main web site at
www.regenesistv.com. That, however, doesn't seem to have easy access
to information about season one episodes. Their linked web site,
www.ontariogenomics.ca, does have an episode guide of sorts (with
individual PDF files about each episode on this web page:

Razor Flashbacks on SciFi
In advance of the Battlestar Galactica Razor TV movie on SciFi on
Satuday, Nov 24th, they are running the minisodes featuring a young
Bill Adama that flashback to the first Cylon War during Flash Gordon.
Adding these to Flash Gordon has extended the shows running time such
that Stargate Atlantis starts up to 5 minutes later (with the second
airings also starting later). SciFi is also making the minisodes
available online and they will apparently be running all of them in
the 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm time slot on Friday, Nov 23rd, during an
Enterprise marathon.
SFTV Schedule Notes
Bionic Woman gets pre-empted for a two hour Halloween night episode
of Phenomenon, NBC's new psychic reality show. Same week repeats of
Bionic Woman on SciFi look to be ending in November. Surprisingly,
SciFi has scheduled The Dresden Files for two episodes at 7 pm
Friday on Nov 9th & 16th.

The SFTV Schedule, SFTV News and SFTV Talk Mailing Lists Info
All three SFTV mailing lists are at yahoogroups.
The SFTV Schedules list consists of the roughly bi-weekly
SFTV Schedules mailing. It is a moderated newsletter type
list. SFTV News is a news and info oriented mailing list
that can be posted to by any subscriber. Traffic is
anywhere from five messages a day to zero, so it is not a
heavy traffic list. SFTV Talk is a discussion list, so
message traffic varies.

use techniques in timeframes or in ways that are not normal doesn't make

The show is 42 minutes long. Of course DNA has a quick turnaround...just
as Law & Order has quick trials. It's called taking literary license,
not Sci-fi.

Shows like CSI (or Bones or Numbers) are fiction with
an emphasis on science and scientists. That seems
to me to be at least related to science fiction.

I also think it's pretty funny that someone hiding behind a
fake name is putting Lee's name in quotes as though it's a
pseudoynm. Lee does us a service, and does it openly and
honestly under his own name. I sure know whose postings
have greater credibility with me.

Tell that to the networks...they call them crime dramas.
If that were the case, then just about every drama out there could be
labeled science fiction. Law and Order uses forensics just like CSI. ER
uses science every day. Criminal Minds does.
The idea for science fiction is that the science used is "speculative."
Bionic legs, eyes, ears and the nanobots as they are used in TBW are
speculative. The Journeyman traveling through time is speculative. These
are primary plot points and make the show science fiction. Getting a
quick turnaround for DNA is taking literary license for the sake of the
short time frame...it doesn't make the show sci-fi. The shows primary
plot is based on current technology. They might throw in the odd
experimental gadget (nothing like a Flux Capacitor) but it doesn't
change the primary plot of the show...which is crime.

I never said that I don't understand why. Or more precisely,
I understand why some people *think* they need to use a nickname;
most of the arguments I find unconvincing. However, that's not

Note the list title: "Science Fiction/Fantasy/Etc." CSI falls under "Etc",
meaning Lee wanted to put it there.
