' The Time Lord's companion - who is portrayed by Jenna-Louise Coleman
in the BBC sci-fi series - has appeared as a Dalek, a Victorian governess in
last year's Christmas special and as a contemporary incarnation of her
character.
' Clara's real identity will be revealed in Saturday night's
(18.05.13) finale episode, 'The Name of the Doctor', but 'Doctor Who' writer
Neil Gaiman insists the character would have been much less complex if
showrunner Steven Moffat hadn't changed his mind.
' Speaking about his most recent story, last Saturday night's
(11.05.13) episode 'Nightmare in Silver', he said: "The original companion
was going to be very much the Victorian governess we saw at Christmas.
' "'Doctor Who' has its own peculiar way of being written, so I
started writing it about 14 months ago. I wrote about the first 10 pages and
then they said they'd changed the companion from what I was expecting to
something else.
' "We decided they can do more weird stuff if it's now the
contemporary third incarnation so I had to reshape it so it wasn't the
governess."
' Neil insists he is in two minds about writing any more episodes of
'Doctor Who' because while he is still keen to pen a storyline that scares
adults, he gets frustrated by the lack of pay.
' He added to Radio Times magazine: "On the one hand I don't have time
to write 'Doctor Who'.
' "It doesn't pay very well, but you also have to rewrite it and
rewrite it and rewrite it and never get paid, whereas in America you get
paid for every rewrite ... And there are lots of things including movies,
novels, an HBO series that I should be doing.
' "On the other hand, I haven't done [a 'Doctor Who'] episode set on
Earth yet, and I haven't created a new monster. And there's part of me that
feels ... I haven't scared anybody yet ... The Cybermen has a few little
scary bits but it's running at about a five of six. I'd love to do a nine.
' "I'd love to do something that sends adults behind the sofa too and
makes them wee. Pools of wee." '

It's interesting to compare this to the previous time a noted SF
author had problems with DW's story arc changing mid-stream.

In 1980, Christopher Priest was told to change his story Sealed Orders
from being about the Doctor and Romana on Gallifrey, to the Doctor,
Romana and Adric in E-Space. He had a lot of trouble doing it, and
eventually the script had to be abandoned.

At least Gaiman deserves credit for sticking with it and trying to
make it work despite all the changes, even if he didn't quite succeed.

You should be able to copy and paste as long as you credit both
source and origianl writer.

Then you get this kid that gets Full Circle in.

Hi, you must be new to planet Earth's entertainment industry where "adult"
only means over-sexed and females wearing little or no clothing, plus lots
of pointless swearing, boozing, and drug-using. The only thing
"challenging" about most of it is trying to bother watching it for more
than two minutes. :-(
