A while back JMS stated that he would not do any other work on B5
related work as long as WB continued to underfund the B5 projects,
namely the Lost Tales.
At that time, I predicted it was the best news ever for B5 and that
his line in the sand would increase, not decrease, the chance of us
seeing more B5.
The logic, as I remember it, went something like this.
1. JMS was becoming known for his screen writing of Changling, which
was increasing his value in the business
2. WB and parent company would eventually see low returns and when
this happened, they would seek out past projects that generated solid
profits, and B5 would be on the radar again.
3. JMS having made money for other studios would come to the attention
of WB again, and they would ask about B5 again and if he could do for
them as he had done for other studios.
4. JMS does not want to abandon B5, on the contrary, he loves it like
a child and wants it to have the respect it deserves and would like to
come back to it again.
OK, months have passed, a recession has hit, Changling was honored
with many nominations and awards and JMS is busy as every writing
movies making studios money.
Now two new pieces of evidence that I think fit into that prediction.
1. On the JMS podcast, he stated that he thinks that B5 would work in
syndication. He did not talk only in past tense re WB, but also in
future tense, as if B5 was still fresh enough to work in syndication.
2. On a recent post JMS stated -
<quote>WB does not have anything going with B5 at the moment, and
would not DO anything with B5 without my direct involvement.
(Interestingly enough, I had a meeting just a few days ago with the
HEAD of WB Television, and they confirmed that there's nothing in the
pipeline, in or out of the studio, and won't be until and unless I
authorize it. They're being very nice these days, for a variety of
reasons that I'll address at some point in the future.)<end quote>
Though I do not think that this means that new B5 works are eminent, I
think that it does mean that the logic I outlined above has some
validity and that we will again see a B5 project in the future and
funded at the level for JMS to do the nice job that the story
deserves.

Oh, I think we can be pretty certain that they're eminent. Even if they
haven't been written yet.

But we can be quite confident that they aren't immanent, although the
Mibari might argue that they will be once produced. <g>

You know, I toyed with throwing "immanent" in there, too, but I figured it
was a pretty obscure word for most people. :-)

No matter how big JMS gets and how much money he makes he is still
only a writer and in Hollywood that isn't much...
What is needs is a big name that counts (actor, director, producer) to
get behind it or WB isn't going to see the potential.
