Mike,
I think that was part of the character. Remember the 'oxygen' mask he
used at one time. Supposedly part of the transition from one world to
the other...

Actually, I really appreciate that, Charlie: I have "Fringe" on the DVR but
won't get to see it until sometime over the weekend. Thursday nights are
tough. :-)

Okay, I just watched it.
All I heard was Nimoy's usual, I'm-getting-old crackliness in his voice.
Which we've been hearing from him for some years now. I did NOT hear any
breathing issues at all, except the one big, gasping breath the character
took while receiving oxygen. And I am _super_ sensitive to people breathing
in a labored manner anywhere near me -- people who have, or have had asthma,
often are (it makes my chest hurt to hear people breathe like that). He was
just crackly-voiced, and wasn't breathing badly at all. It's not how he
sounds speaking the lines; you have to listen _between_ the lines for
breaths. And his were fine.

Your imagination, except the one moment mentioned by Amy, and that was
clearly a character thing. BTW, was I the only one who kept expecting
a cigar-smoking robot to show up at any moment? That whole heads-in-a-
jar thing just kept making me think "Futurama". <g>

Thanks. A couple things prompted my original post:
1) Haven't heard Nimoy speak for several years - I suppose Amy is right. His voice is getting old and crackly.
2) I have a pair of B&W 800D's driving my front soundstage - they tend to be quite revealing on human voices.

Am I the only one who thinks the Peter character is woefully
underused? He's supposed to be a genius level intellect and a top
shelf grifter/scam artist and all he really does is keep Walter on a
leash (sort of) and make occasional flirtations with Olivia. Minor
complaint, though, because I still enjoy the show.

I hadn't really thought of that, but I think you're right. Part of the
problem I think is that he's kind of redundant, sort of a saner, less
capable version of his father. So he'd naturally get into more of the
action adventure stuff, but they have to leave that to the FBI agent,
and Olivia is a weak link -- just totally uninteresting, she seems to
have only one facial expression, stunned, and no emotions or
personality at all.
And that stuff with Olivia's sister, ouch. If I wanted to tune into a
family drama, I'd tune into a family drama, which would at least have
the virtue of being insightful and interesting. What makes Hollywood
think that people who tune into a show about mad scientists and FBI
agents are interested in boring scenes of home life? If I wanted to
watch a boring scene of home life, I'd go hang out in the kitchen.
I wonder if FBI agents and mad scientists watch domestic dramas to
escape from their everyday lives, LOL . . .
