It's been done. Several times. "Think Like A Dinosaur"
in Analog or Asimag most recently. "Good Night, Mr.
_________" (where the blank is not in the story title; I just
don't remember it.)

1) Well, if you want to bring Heisenberg into it:
You can't scan it accurately. There is nothing in Heisenberg
which says that "The uncertainty in the position times the
uncertainty in the momentum of a particle can not be less than
h, UNLESS YOU DESTROY THE PARTICLE IMMEDIATELY AFTER." The
capitalised portion ain't in the rule.

2) One would think that the disappearing matter would have
some effect on the matter around it.
