Okay they showed this a coupla times on FX last week, (probably a lot
this year,) so I've seen bits of it.

Is it as much of a non-stop roller coaster as it looks?
I tuned in just a bit before the camping John Cusiak character meets
Woody Harrelson's character. (I hope they didn't spend much more time
setting up than that.) Sooner than I expected, he was driving away
from an earthquake that was opening fissures just behind his wheels,
taking off from an airport so close to downtown that he had to dodge
buildings that were all falling in his direction, outrunning a
volcanic caldera, and driving a camper away from molten rocks that
kept landing closer and closer, (eruptions take ranging shots?!?) only
to face the greatest hazard of all; his ex's boyfriend is in charge of
taxiing the airplane!

Tuned in near the end, where a ship is taking on water, and they are
still keeping up the pace of near death every few minutes. Drowning
doesn't give me quite the adrenaline kick, but there is a countdown to
the ship crashing into a mountain. One final time, the Cusiak
character doesn't pop up from the water at the same time as his son,
for no reason I could discern, except to wring one final drop of
suspense out of the audience.

Yup, It is a cool movie if you don't think too
much about it.

Yep. Emmerich should stick to big, dumb disaster movies and leave
17th-century English Lit alone.
