If only it were JOHN CARTER OF MARS--but TPTB sadly cut the title in half.

A film franchise based on a series of Young Adult novels with a female lead
who's NOT a passive wuss pining for multiple male prince charmings--none of
whom sparkle--to save her? What? How'd that get approved?

Almost, it would be totally cool if sneak in Ant-Man and Wasp. They're tiny.
They could be cgi fx with voice-overs for most of their screen time.

Hopefully it will be more like Indy & The Last Crusade than Spider-Man 3.

My only worry about this is that the books were totally downbeat. Even at
the end of the last book, she is a sad figure. There have to be some
lighter moments (in three films!) and a happier denoument.

That's easy. The movie could end with a musical slo-mo flashback to happier
days when everyone was alive.

The books are interesting in that they are entirely in America, which
seems to be the only country that has survived catastrophe (including Asia
sinking beneath the waves!) Perhaps the tip of Everest was still sticking
out of the water.
