New Home for Octocon
Ireland's national SF convention Octocon has left its longtime home,
the Royal Marine Hotel, and this year will be in central Dublin in
the Royal Dublin Hotel, O'Connell Street. The dates, 21-22 October
2000, are slightly later in the month than originally planned.
The relationship with the Royal Marine Hotel has been somewhat strained
for many years. The hotel is beautiful, but room prices have always
been high, and although its location just by the ferry from Britain
has made it convenient for British attendees, it was difficult to
get to for the Irish.
The committee's ideas include a convention long live-action role playing
game within the convention spaces, and a masquerade and fancy dress

Fans Across the World Thanks for help, info, etc. to James Shields,
Roger Robinson, Marc Ortlieb, Piotr Cholewa, Ken Slater, Lance Oszko,
Fantasy Centre, and others. I have no money for wordPerfect 8 at present,
and am cursing MS Works ever more loudly. In two days time I am officially
without a home, mine'll have been rented out, and I don't yet have
the money to rent anywhere.My email is a mess, the mobile phone and
infrared link don't work too well in Abingdon where the Vodaphone
signal is poor. I'll survive...
