RASFF is clearly not as healthy as RASFW or RASFC. I'm rather
troubled by these stats given that 2005 will be even worse, with much
of the traffic being taken up by a few megathreads about topics that
only a few people (those heavily involved in gun threads, frex) care
about.

Usenet will survive, RASFW will (I predict) survive, I'm not sure
about RASFF.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong - there are a good number of people still
here and discussing other things. I've seen MUCH worse. Some time this
year I'm going to attempt to get uk.rec.pets.misc shut down, because for
several months one troll has been posting about fifteen cross-posted
messages for every legitimate message posted, and it's reached the point
where there are only two or three other posts a week, all of which
immediately get trolled.

Could be. Like anybody else, I'm susceptible to doom and gloom
prognostications. The "first time posters" stat troubles me, though.
Not a lot of new blood coming in to Usenet.

Or at least to this newsgroup.

I've been meaning to write an article about this newsgroup for the
WSFA Journal. But I've been postponing it until the flame wars
die down a little. N*sarel hasn't posted in nine days, which is
a good sign.

If all the troll-posts are cross-posted, why can't everyone simply
killfile all cross-posted messages?

If all alcoholic drinks are wet, why can't everyone simply give up
drinking liquids?

Because it's reached the point where there is no real community there.
Newcomers see a group that has no worthwhile content and log off. If it
wasn't for the fact that I started the newsgroup and try to keep the FAQ
going I wouldn't be reading it.

Oddly enough I made exactly this comment a couple of days ago, I got one
response, from someone who didn't know how to do this in Outlook
Express. And after trying to find out neither do I, it doesn't seem to
be an option. Unless someone can tell me how to do it.
