What is the easiest way to get from the Palmer House to Soldier Field
and back on a Monday Night (say, December 28th)? A benefactor (who I
presume wants to stay anonymous) is giving me airfare to and from
Chicago, a paid ride to and from the Palmer House to O'Hare and a ticket
to see my Vikings play the Bears at Soldier Field. Palmer House to
Soldier Field is too far for me to walk in my condition, so I need to
know how to make that last bit. I assume this will involve the L or
Metra.
Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I think the easiest economical way is the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan
Express Bus. It goes directly from the corner of State and Monroe to
the stadium:

Enjoy the game!

I'd met so many of his kind during the war. No wonder we
lost.

Ok,
Now-uh, you see which way you pointin', right?
Yeah, ok that's good, cus you see that place?
You see where it say "Rib-Tips?"
Well fuck that, you don't want to go that way. You gonna go all the way
down about half a block and you'll see a Torino with no wheels on it. Now
inside that Torino is my cousin Jackie. Now you tell him that you my boy,
and that you lost, and he'll make sure you get to where you're going, 'cuz
you don't want to know from me.

Many years back, my grandfather hailed a cab in England and was vastly
gratified when the cabbie said, "Coo!"
So somewhat later, but still years back, we were driving in Chicago and
got lost somewhere. Dad rolled down the window and asked a guy how to
get back to our destination, and I was similarly gratified when he began
his directions, "Well, dig..."
