Hey all

Just following up on a comment earlier about moves to web by other usenet groups - I saw that rasfc.com etc were available and decided to register a few on everyone's behalf in order that they don't end up belonging to a spammer.

Don't plan to do anything immediately with them, but suggestion welcome. Happy (when I have time) to set up a basic information website about RASFC and various ways to get to it (with a picture of cat-vacuuming pin ;)

Failing that, just having them not owned by a spammer is a good thing. Don't mind bearing the costs for now. I got plenty from RASFC - my way of giving back.

Best wishes

Just took a look. Some names I haven't seen for a while.

I guess I have to join LiveJournal, huh?

I feel as if I were about to step into a very hot bathtub....

OK, I seem to have done that. How do I get approved for the
group?

If you want to friend some long-time rasfcians:
I'm 'birdsedge' on LJ
If you look at my friends list you'll see folks you'll recognise from
Zeborah to Charlie Stross (autopope)

If you want to get the group talking you'll have to post something.
We'll probably chip in when we see you're there, though it's been quiet
there for a while. A lot of rasfc people have 'friended' each other so
interaction takes place in the blogs.

Cheers

Meaning I have to look elsewhere than on the list?

My head's spinning.

(a) I have no idea how to 'friend' or how to post. Presumably I
can get my daughter to tell me how, though not tonight or
tomorrow or Sunday.

(b) I saw a notice that the moderator has to approve everybody.
I guess I'm waiting for that.

I could fairly quickly knock up a website explaining what RASFC is/was, where to find the various discussions (usenet/livejournal) these days, the old rules etc.? Not going to do it now as I don't have huge amounts of time, but what else would people want to see on such a site (apart from a picture of the cat-vacuuming pin ;op )?

RASFC alumni list? Links to SF writing resources?

The FAQ.

An alumni list would be good - presuming we could make it reasonably
complete. Some folks disappeared a long time ago but still made a
notable contribution here. (Patricia Wrede & Mary Gentle for starters.)

These are my web pages for Northwrite SF and for Milford.
and

MTW, Gruff, due to a late drop out we have a Milford place available
this year. (Just sayin')

I'm sure I've still got the original art for that around here somewhere,
but having just moved & had shoulder surgery, it's going to be a while
before I can dig it up.

gah! Massively tempted - you know know I'd love to come to one. I'm in Spain the week before though and we're launching our new smart language learning software in October so I can't afford to take another week off. :( Put me down for 2013 though.

Shame, I'm just picking up Supernova after 3-4 months of letting it lie. I could use an intense writing week.

I have two or three pins somewhere, including the one I used to
put on Sebastian's harness. He never wrote a word, being stupid
even as cats go, but he sat on a lot of manuscripts.

Hey that would be great.Look out for the email from the Milford mailing
list when the bookings open for 2013. We usually open booking at
Eastercon and it generally fills up pretty fast. (In 2014 we'll open
bookings earlier because it's in August so that people flying in for
London Worldcon will be able to do Milford on the same plane ticket.)

The only reason we have a late space this year is that somebody said
they were coming and then backed out. But to be honest the workload is
just a little more manageable with 14 rather than our maximum of 15.

Maybe. We've discussed the possibility before ... "Cat ate it,
cat ate it, cat buried it in the litter box, cat ate it and threw
it back up onto the desk: maybe I'd better look at that one."

All five of the cats that were in Micki's house when I moved in with
her are gone. None of them were tragically young. They were all
between twelve and seventeen when they went. But I miss them.

I still have WooToo who came to live with me when my mom died. Mom
told me i was going to have to take care of her but it is more of a
pleasure than an obligation. I suspect mom told her that she was going
to have to take care of me.

We still have Sebastian's littermate, Viola, who is old and
cranky but still going strong. My two cats are almost as old.

Returning to the earlier topic, I managed (with some trepidation)
to make an LJ account and get accepted by rasfc.com. But now
when I go to it, there's nothing but my name in large blue
letters. Presumably I'm supposed to post something, if only
"Hello, world", but there's no indication of how to do it.
Anyone have any pointers?

Hm. I didn't see that.

There's a black bar that reads Username/Submit Query/Log
In/f/[icon of bird]/pulldown menu listing Google and some names I
don't recognize/Search LiveJournal.

Under that it says Remember Me/Forgot your Password/Create an
account .

Then under the black bar it says djheydt/recent
entries/friends/archives/user info/RSS.

So I thought, maybe I'm not logged in, so I tried logging in; but
it doesn't recognize my password.

So I clicked on "Forgot your password?" but it offered me some
captcha squiggles that I CANNOT read.

Trying again....

Again failed captcha squiggles.

So I tried asking it to mail me a password. It said, "Invalid
answer in the antispam field. Please try again."

If the antispam field = the captcha thing, I shall probably never
be able to pass it. One of their fonts is legible, the other
isn't.

/grrrrr

Any other ideas?
