The treaty that had allowed humankind entry to the interstellar
community had been harsh. Earth was only allowed a token fleet. No
heroic Captains Kirk and Picard likely to manifest anytime soon.
Still, the treaty obliged Earth to send its best to join the combined
fleets of the Spiral Arm Alliance when a threat emerged from the dark
heart of the cluster.
So it was that the proud Shi-Tzu class runabout Samantha took her
place among the battleships, carriers and cruisers of the Alliance
fleet.

Well, the galactic lawyers assigned to enforce the treaty immediately
refused permission to built the Mastiff class battleships and the
Wolfhound class battle cruisers and even the Terrier class destroyers,
so we did what we could.

To be fair, the Samantha is a war-runabout. And i took her namesake
for a walkabout last night and again this morning.

I once inserted in someone's list of the Chow-Chow's good qualities
"Will not bite someone who is not physically present."

I'm reminded of A. Bertram Chandler's Dog Star Line.
I don't recall all of their ship names, but in one
story I just read, the ship _Pomeranian_ appeared.

It's actually striking as a ship-classification partly because of the mental whiplash due to the similarity to Sun-Tzu.

I certainly had a "waitaminute-huh?" moment.
