POETRY SUPER HIGHWAY BOOKSTORE

Ghosts in Time and Space by Douglas Richardson featured this week in
the PSH Bookstore.

There's a divine oddness in Ghosts in Time and Space, a bit of
steampunk, a bit of grace, as though this catalogue of ghosts
appeared, in a darkened room, as love children of Edward Gorey, say,
and photographer Stephen Berkman, spliced with faded color pages
lifted from LIFE or TIME. Here, we have a not-so-distant cousin of
Spoon River Anthology or Winesburg, Ohio--updated to catch a hint of
Pearl Jam, Vegas, Betty Boop--in a "town" grown virtually wide. These
sometimes-entwined narratives of disconnection are properly haunting,
but with the lightest (most ghostly?) possible touch. I can imagine
them sitting on a shelf in the Museum of Jurassic Technology, next to
The Vintage Book of Amnesia--except that Richardson's ghosts are
haunted by memory, not its lack.
--Sarah Maclay

Ghosts in Time and Space is magnificent--a barrage of imagery that
Richardson somehow manages to pull together and bind into a portrait
of visceral emotion.
--Francisco Dominguez (Aim)

Ghosts in Time and Space by Douglas Richardson is a fantastic book.
Vivid, haunting, profound and lush. Beautiful.
--Ellyn Maybe

Douglas Richardson's fine collection of poems wrestles death and
memory to the ground without apology. His language is tight and to
the point. His images stun the senses.
--James Owen Shepard, Poet/Playwright
