I'm not sure we even know what either game is. Our rugger teams (if
any at the moment) would be strictly collegiate, and I've never even
heard /of/ anybody's attempting cricket in the U.S., as it's more a
lifestyle than a game even in Brit.

After 1776 the United States developed its own unique culture...
there have been some yearnings back to old Britain...
at times the presidency has tried to mimic the monarchy...
but no, it is a strength...
The US plays rugby union in the rugby world cup... its players
are probably drawn from one university (Columbia?) where
the game is played...
the net has shattered our image of the gum chewing yank- thankfully...
sports and the arts do break down barriers...
