I started being interested in Judy Garland
20-30 years ago, and so Deanna Durbin's name
always cropped up.

I find it odd, though, that she retired when she
was only 29 - wonderful hubby and farmhouse near
Paris notwithstanding - if one has talent like
that, surely it's a sin not to continue to use
it - till one drops dead!

But she apparently hated Hollywood and performing
so intensely that she absolutely refused to
perform anywhere after her third marriage.

Odd. Not to want to create, I mean.

My understanding is that she never quit singing. She used to perform at private gatherings after her retirement.
