I don't remember anyone reporting about this exhibition, and I think it highly
important to the crime world that such a thing is going on. A collection of
crime authors at the National Portrait Gallery! Very cool. MrE, Marcus and I
went to check it out the other day. It's in a tiny basement gallery, so it was
like looking round at a CIS party. The b&w photos are excellently done by
Nicola Kurtz, and she lists their favourite lines from their work, body count
in their books and favourite method of murder. I've not got my leaflet with me
so can only remember 13 of the 15 authors featured; if anyone else can fill the
other two in that'll be grand. They are: Ian Rankin (a really cool pic of him
laughing), Minette Walters, Andrew Taylor, Stella Duffy, Val McDermid, P.D.
James, Joolz Denby for some reason, Colin Dexter, Martina Cole, Nicci French,
Julian Rathbone, Frances Fyfield, and Clare Curzon who is on the poster with
her spooky eyepatch. The boys were prosaic and were like 'Ok, seen that now'. I
however thought it was pretty impressive. Loved it.

H.R.F. Keating and Mike Phillips, I believe.

Of course, some of us also had our photographs taken, but seem to have failed the
audition.

How about: "A sexier bastard than Thomas Harris, or your money back"

After reading Hannibal, I'd say you're selling yourself too short. How about:

"A sexier bastard than Elmore Leonard, or your money back"

Another bearded fellow, the bar is raised but he looks too confused to win out
in the end.

Never seen Thomas Harris, but I can say this: I'd rather read Steve's books.

Mary
Just finished "Dancing With The Virgins", which was wonderful.

On 16 Dec 2002 17:50:01 GMT, Ms Jordan posted a true pearl of wisdom:

Well, if beards are the criteria, how about "A sexier bastard than
Ernest Hemingway."

Or

"A sexier bastard than those guys in Z-Z-Top".

That's kind of on a par with "A sexier bastard than the Hare Krishna
next door, or..."
