Has an amusing photo.

Excerpt: "In 1989 Jenny Fanelli and Random House attempted to revive
and update The Three Investigators in the spin-off Crimebusters series
which was aimed at a young adult audience. The Three Investigators
are several years older, they drive cars and have girlfriends. The
books were poorly marketed and didn't really click with fans of the
original series. Eleven titles were issued in a two year period. The
series editor, Jenny Fanelli, retired at this time and the plug was
pulled on the series. Shortly thereafter in 1991 and 1992, a dozen
titles from the original series were issued in a confusing sequence by
Bullseye Knopf. The books were of a high quality with new cover art
but they failed to reignite interest in the series."

(Old book covers and plot descriptions all the way through 1987. I
swear, I've only seen the cover artwork for about four of these - I
NEVER saw that edition of "Terror Castle," even online!)

And somewhere, you can find "The Curse of the Mysterious Traveler."
What tickles me about this is that Allie Jamison has to spy on Skinny
Norris. I didn't know she appeared in more than two of the books. One
amusing, dated line from one of those books was when one of the boys
said "hardly any real bums carry radios." Nowadays, of course.........

("Curiously, Mr. Hitchcock did reserve the right of approval when it
came to the cover art on each book - even when his image didn't appear
there!")

One non-3 Investigators story I remember was in the pink middle-school
William Durr textbook "Impressions." It was "The Midnight
Visitor" (you can read that in "Mystery and More Mystery"). It had a
very well set up ending.

(filmography - guess what? "Secret of Terror Castle" has been
released in Germany! No English reviews just yet, but the last movie
didn't do well in Germany, so...)

Not to be confused with the film producer, who was a few days older.

Gosh, that takes me back - Terror Castle, Screaming Skull, Stuttering Parrot
etc. I was always puzzled by how much Alfred Hitchcock was involved. It
seems that they just bought the rights to use his name and character, and he
didn't have any creative input after all.

I wonder where all my Three Investigators books are...

Of course I meant either "Screaming Clock" or "Talking Skull" ;-)
